Sad that you have to use a 20 year bench mark for current success. Most of the flashes minor sports can retain or return to glory fairly quickly. Can KSU football recover quickly? Can KSU men's basketball continue to survive with the MAC center conditions?

You guys seem to put a lot of stock in a what is basically a football gossip site. Look back through that article and see how many actually verifiable facts are there. (Hint: almost none). It’s mostly air. I realize that’s what happens when there is no information, but seriously...

And the top basketball program and overall athletic program in the MAC over the last 20 years is not going anywhere, so relax.

The fact the job has been open nearly a month and is only one of two remaining openings in FBS supports the assertion. If all was hunky dory for the Flashes they wouldn't be scrambling right before signing day.

I'm not sure if there's a small airport in Kent or not, or if potential coaches take flights to there when visiting if so. But Miami fans have long used public flight records to track potential hires, that's probably the closest to any real insight you'll get.

Axeme stated that over the last twenty years Kent is the top athletic department. That also means the past ten years. Football was proven to recover quickly with a top 25 ranking in the past 5 fives. As for basketball Kent is the reigning MAC champions so they seem to be doing just fine.

As far as facilities go please explain to me the benefits that Akron and BG have had with their brand new facilities. Spending money to spend money is fiscally irresponsible. We would love to have a new stadium and MACC but until we have the finances in place to not send the university into massive debt the current buildings work.

Dear ilovegymnast,
I do not know what span of years to include, but Eastern has won more overall athletic championships than any other school in the MAC.

According to the Record Courier KSU beat writer:

Quote:Sources close to @KentStFootball told me this morning that the next head coach is expected to be in place at some point next week. The field has been narrowed, but no one has officially been offered the position yet.

Brian Wright OC of Toledo, and who was also interim coach at FAU would make an excellent choice.

Not a knock on KSU here, but their HC gig is similar to that of Indiana and Purdue of the B1G. If you can cobble together a few 6-6/7-5 seasons in a row, squeak into a couple bowl games, then you're golden in terms of job security. The bar's not that incredibly high. For that reason alone, I would've suspected some more interest.

This side of their stadium is a complete joke. High school stands. Not a good look for the MAC. They should be forced to renovate/upgrade it. On the bright side, Toledo never has to play there.

Until 2018 that is...

Serious question....Why isn't there at least one MAC School with a dome for a stadium?

Simple, the price tag is too high. Here's the build cost of MAC stadiums after accounting for inflation (in millions) compared to college domes per Wikipedia:

Infocision Stadium (2009): $70.4
UB Stadium (1993): $39.1
Yager Stadium (1983): $33.0
Doyt Perry Stadium (1966): $22.5
Dix Stadium (1969): $23.3
Huskie Stadium (1965): $17.6
Kelly/Shorts Stadium (1972): $12.8
Rynearson Stadium (1969): $9.3
Glass Bowl (1937): $5.3
Waldo Stadium (1939): $4.4
Peden Stadium (1929): $2.6
Scheumann Stadium (1967): Unknown

Alerus Center (2001): $112.3
Fargodome (1992): $83.4
Carrier Dome (1980): $75.3
ETSU Mini Dome (1977): $35.0
Kibbie Dome (1975): $33.4
UNI-Dome (1976): $33.2
Walkup Skydome (1977): $32.1
DakotaDome (1979): $29.6
Holt Arena (1970): $17.9

Obviously the older a stadium is, the less you factor in the upgrades that happen over time and general cost of living increases. That being said, I think Idaho's experience after moving up from the Big Sky has shown that a dome like theirs is inadequate for FBS, you need to build big like Syracuse (who cut a lot of corners like not building an AC system) or intimate and acceptably large like NDSU to make it work. That basically means spending over twice as much, and it's not like the MAC has ever been flush with cash. It'd be interesting to see a MAC team (or any G5 for that matter) to play in a dome that sat 25K and was a good place to see a game, but that will never be a reality.

RE: Haynes fired by Kent State
There was talk back in the early 70’s to possibly dome the Glass Bowl after the 35-0 run. It would have been multi-use and Centennial Hall would never have been built... Capacity, around 25-30,000... The Glasstrodome, interesting concept that never came to fruition...

Quote:Kent State: Last night we reported Minnesota’s Ed Warinner was no longer a candidate (per source). Thereafter, Warinner tweeted that he personally was never contacted by anyone from the University. As we said, this search hasn’t gone smoothly. As we reported yesterday, Syracuse co-offensive coordinator Sean Lewis is considered a finalist for the position and we understand at least one more coach is considered a finalist as well. We were told this AM this one likely won’t be over until the weekend.
