RE: P5 coaching changes...
PAC 12 and SEC are the leaders out of the gate.

In the Big 12 I only see one potential firing this year and that would be Kliff Kingsbury. Through almost 5 seasons at Tech he is sitting at 15-30 in conference play.

This year they went 3-0 in OOC against a solid schedule (@Houston and Arizona State), but winning conference games is essential...especially with a 9 game conference schedule.

Is it better to fire your coach when everyone else is too or to wait for a less competitive market? Or, if you realize that all your opponents are firing coaches, do you wait because next year you may have an advantage?

When is there not a competitive market? Who's to say the market isn't more competitive next year?

If Bret Bielema is not fired this year, I would have to believe it's because at least 3 other SEC schools are looking for coaches.

FWIW, I think Bielema is fired this year.

I suppose that depends on where you see your program and where you see it going.

If you're a Nebraska and see your program as needing to return to the glory of the past, you probably want to do it sooner as to be a player in the market for the big names. Same for programs like Florida.

If you're an Oregon State type program and have a goal of being competitive and being bowl eligible while not being in the position of going after a "name", maybe you wait and see what the fall out is.

RE: P5 coaching changes...
As expected, Chip Kelly is deciding between Florida and UCLA...

Quote:Chip Kelly met with UCLA officials regarding the school's vacant head-coaching position in Los Angeles on Tuesday and is expected to decide between Florida and UCLA in the next few days, a source close to Kelly told ESPN's Mark Schlabach.

And, there's this, another reminder of the immense power that the shoe companies can exert over high-profile college programs:

Quote:A potential sticking point with UCLA is the school’s association with Under Armour, because of Kelly’s close relationship with Nike founder Phil Knight, who considers Under Armour a bitter rival.

RE: P5 coaching changes...
Are some of these great coaches the P5 is firing because they are in situations where they can't be more successful under the circumstances going to end up at G5 schools where they can stay for a decade?

Coaching talent recycling back to the G5...

RE: P5 coaching changes...
Have these university presidents forgotten how difficult it is to win in places?

Giving a G5 example; Rocky Long at New Mexico vs. Rocky Long at San Diego St. its a lot easier to win at SDSU sitting on a gold mine of talent. Same coach but better results at SDSU with a better situation.

There is a reason why former P5 coaches were snatching up jobs at Florida G5 programs. The players are right there.

If that happens I think both schools will be happier in the long run. Kelly would find out quickly how alien he would be to the football culture of the Southeast.

There are a lot of good jobs that are open this time around.

It's great to be a coach, not so great to be looking.

Nebraska ought to be next; the Huskers got crushed by Iowa today and finished 4-8.

There aren't "lots" as Power 5 football just has possibly 12-15 good jobs.
Florida is one of them.

UCLA, Nebraska, Tennessee, Arkansas, Aggie, Mississippi are not one of those gigs.
