The tournament is starting its second round. Just find a Dartmouth/New Hampshire game in that round fascinating. The MAC with Akron and WMU seeded is also rather amazing.
Why? I don't know much about WMU soccer but Akron has been one of the best programs in the country in the past 10 years or so. That's like saying it's amazing that Gonzaga is seeded highly in the NCAA men's basketball tournament.

Was aware Akron has been a soccer power for most of the last decade. Just refreshing that non-P5 schools can be powers. The bracket is just filled with lower DI's beating P5s.

It doesn't take that much investment in a soccer program to build it into a top-25 team and maybe even a program with net-positive revenue. Non-P5 universities are starting to catch on.

All top 7 seeds advance. But only #9 Stanford and #10 WMU advance - all other seeds 8-16 lost

Only ACC (4), B1G (3) and MAC (2) have multiple teams in the Sweet 16

It's the first NCAA tourney appearance for Omaha in any non-hockey sport since the move to D1. It didn't go exactly how Omaha was hoping, but still, it's exciting to see UNO make waves on the national stage.

This is something I'm noticing too. With the sport catching on, it makes me wonder if it'll eventually become something similar to how hockey is, with smaller programs standing toe-to-toe with major colleges, or if the larger ones will catch on.

It surely is a net positive for the WCC schools and even a few Big West schools.

Last year the MW unofficially earned three bids.

I'm so used to seeing Denver in the mix. What happened, bad year?

They lost to Omaha in the Summit championship in an extended shoot out. Their record was not as impressive the year at 11-6-2 So no at-large was given.

Elite Eight matchups
#9 Stanford at #1 Wake Forest
#5 Akron at #4 Louisville
Fordham at #3 North Carolina
#7 Michigan State at #2 Indiana.
Guaranteed to have one Big Ten team in the College Cup. And I think Fordham is playing for their first Cup appearance.

Despite upsets, this isn't really all that of a wild Elite 8. #1-5, 7, 9, and Fordham. #1-5 & 7 should be in the Elite 8. #9 is Stanford who is the two-time defending national champion. #6 was Duke who lost to Fordham in the Sweet 16 in a shootout. #8 Clemson was knocked out by Coastal Carolina who was eliminated by #9 Stanford.
All in all, its a fairly chalk bracket.

Once it got to this stage - lots of upsets in the prior round

College Cup has been set:
#2 Indiana vs #3 North Carolina
#5 Akron vs #9 Stanford
Can a 2-time defending national champion be a Cinderella?

Indiana-UNC sounds like a Final Four matchup in basketball.
And no, a 2-time defending national champion ain't a Cinderella. There is none when you have four top-10 seeds.
