Turns out Austin Peay probably got screwed out of an FCS playoff spot because of the UCF game:

https://twitter.com/RedditCFB/status/932292536491749376

This is just another example of why I think "playoff committees" suck. In this case, they penalized Austin Peay for daring to challenge themselves by playing a strong opponent rather than just scheduling a relatively easy win.

If you're going to have anything you call a 'playoff,' then every team should have control over their destiny. For all the people who just "know" that some teams are better than others, go look up Super Bowl 3, Boise State/Oklahoma, NC State/Houston basketball... hell, just watch Hoosiers.

RE: Austin Peay
Ya. I watched the selection show to see where my Lehigh Mountain Hawks would land. Peay got penalized for scheduling 3 FBS opponents. The committee chair basically said over-scheduling did them in. They should have scheduled a bunch of FCS cupcakes for their OOC. Lesson learned I guess.

I want to apologize to Austin Peay for doing the right thing. We UCF fans are grateful that you took the bullet and decided to play us, and you will always be held in high regard by Knight Nation.

"Committees gonna committee"...and as long as we have humans making the rules, things like this will happen, unfortunately.

My personal opinion is that we owe you a home game in Clarksville sometime.

We need to take these decisions out of the hands of these talking asshats (committees) with their inherent biases and just use a single data base that everyone agrees on to determine who gets in on all levels (FBS/FCS). Problem solved then and we don’t have to listen to some morbidly obese knob polishers try to justify their illogical biased choices.

I feel for Austin Peay, but playing 3 FBS teams didn't keep them out, losing to Jacksonville State did. That cost them the Ohio Valley title and an auto-bid to the FCS playoff.

That's not true. While beating Jacksonville State would have given them the auto-bid, the committee chair said the lack of an OOC game vs an FCS school made it impossible for them to evaluate Peay's worthiness.

Just FYI, UCF was an extra game for them. It’s not like we replaced an FCS team on the schedule.

Which makes this reasoning ever more BS

Shameful.

The Committee put an end to a wondrous ascension from the abyss for APSU football.

the coach was smart treating the UCF game like a bowl game.

Y’all are missing the fact that they were 0-1 against others in the field. Do I think they still should’ve got in? Sure, but there were more factors at play than just playing and losing to 3 FBS teams.

I was just looking at UCF's schedule and nobody scored 25 or more points against the Knights this year except for Austin Peay, who scored 33.

I'm not taking anything away from AP because they did have some good playmakers, but pretty much everyone was sleeping to start the AP game. The defense was clearly not really focused, the fans weren't that excited (FCS game).....the defense basically sleepwalked through the game and got their butts chewed by the DC after.

There's also the fact that UCF played a lot of 2nd stringers for most of the game to give the starters some sort of rest, since that was supposed to be a Bye week.

Amazing thing about auto bids - 5&6 teams like Lehigh get to play for the National Championship while stronger teams with better records and wins sit home. They did beat 3&8 Lafayette at the buzzer this weekend and went 5&1 in the Patriot League this year losing all of their OOC games though. However those are the rules that everyone excepts going into the season so they are the rules you have to except at the end of the season. Maybe it should be applied to the FBS level where conference champions need only apply as the first round of the College Play Off system. 07-coffee3

I like peanut butter and jelly. The brown peanut butter can represent Lehigh and you pick a jelly flavor that matches the maroon color of Lafayette. Do you want to deliver it to Fisher Field on Lafayette's Campus in Easton, or to Goodman Stadium on the other side of South Mountain since Taylor Stadium on Lehigh's Campus no longer exists. I believe Lehigh last played in Taylor Stadium around 1987. Rauch Business Center, the Zoeliner Arts Center, and a parking garage are currently on the site of the old Taylor Stadium on the South Side of Bethlehem. And by the way with Lehigh's win this year (they won the last 3 games) I think the series stands at 78 wins for Lafayette and 70 wins for Lehigh. Lafayette's last win was the 150th game played in Yankee Stadium in 2014 which they won 27-7. Rimshot 01-donnankungfu 04-cheers

I had a nice view of the campus while I sat on the roof of my off-campus house on East 5th to watch Transformers film their opening scene at Bethlehem Steel. Lots of pyrotechnics.

I remember the days when word around Bethlehem was the South Side between Bethlehem Steel and Lehigh would be eliminated at one point with Lehigh moving down the hill and the Steel moving up the hill. We all know how that turned out. Lehigh keeps moving down the hill, up the hill, through the woods, and over the hill with the athletic complex on the other side of the mountain even taking over the Steel's Homer Research Labs. Meanwhile the Steel with its 48" Combo Mill is closed down, 15,000 post WWII jobs are gone from Bethlehem, and a casino and a party zone at the Steel Stacks takes is place along the Lehigh River. At least the Lehigh Tavern is still there, don't know about Smuggler's, but I do know the Wine Cellar is gone. 04-wine

Total bull****. AP went 8-1 against FCS opponents and hung more points on the 15th ranked team in FBS than anyone else so far. Its not like they were embarassed by UC and Miami, either. I don't follow FCS so I don't know anything about the teams selected over them. But to use this as an excuse to leave them out is complete crap.
