Rockets are getting plenty of practice against the press.

I agree. In the past we have had problems with presses. So far we have handled two different type of presses by good teams. Part of it is that everyone on the court can move the ball over the time line. The most important thing to me, is our attitude to attack the press and score against it before the defense can get back. Good coaching and good execution by the players.

Kayla Mc was instrumental against St. Francis, catching the ball at mid court and finding a guard on the run to the hoop. Didn’t see today’s game- what kind of press?

Much more active press than from St Francis with greater speed and athletic defensive players. Rockets did manage to make some quick passes which resulted in easy baskets. But they also turned it over several times with bad passes. LL continued to press most of the game so I guess their coach must have thought it was at least mildly effective.

RE: WBB vs ULL Game Thread
Rockets mostly had difficulty inbounding the ball against the press, especially early on. Once they got the ball on the court, the press really wasn't a problem, and they burned it a number of times. I expect the coaches will correct the inbounding problem quickly.

Turnovers in Q1 (9 TO in Q1, 10 the other 3 quarters) were often the result of trying to force passes where the play was just not there. That too got corrected mostly after Q1 was over.

I know it's only been 3 games, but I've been really impressed with Beacham so far. She is still a freshman and learning, but has shown some really good flashes. She has a very quick shot and can get it off over players in a way that we haven't seen from a UT big in a long time (McIntyre uses her skill to go around more than over). She's waaay stronger than McIntyre and doesn't appear intimidated as a frosh. She does have a tendency right now to quickly pick up silly fouls, but I think that will improve the more court time she gets.

I was surprised at how well she runs for a big. Agree 100% with your assessment.

I agree that Beacham looks very good early on. This team needs for her to play well and get playing time if they will be as successful as last year. Otherwise they are at a significant disadvantage on size against most teams. For me turnovers are a worry. They have 60 turnovers in three games. 20/game won't cut it. And many of them have been careless passes. I heard coach indicate on the postgame interview that she planning to stress ball security in preparation for the Dayton game.
