Discussion of MACtion - Playing Midweek Games (Washington Post Article)
One of the best sports writers around, John Feinstein, tackles why the MAC doesn't have any games on Saturdays in November.

He discusses with and quotes the MAC COMMISSIONER at length.

I love articles in which the writer goes out and ask the person who is best equipped to explain the how and why... Yes, its exposure. Yes, its money.

Exposure and money, sure. But is it enough of either?

I call BS.....

“And I think it’s fair to say it worked. The MAC went from being a regional conference to being a national conference because of the midweek exposure.”

-Of course this guy is going to say this.....doesn't make it true. What makes
the Midwest MAC a 'national conference'? NOTHING

They then talk about thousands of empty seats, instead of the reality which is tens of thousands. The vast majority of these games only draw a few thousand, regardless of team. Then he kinda tries to turn most of the blame to 'weather.' COME ON MAN

“It’s always been about the exposure, and I think our coaches would tell you it has helped them recruit nationally a great deal,”

-Total nonsense. Looks at MAC recruiting rankings. Each team recruits mostly
locally, and then has a staff member or 2 who may have some connection to
any outlying State or 2 or 3. Just like just about EVERY team in the country,
somebody will try to recruit a bit in Texas and Florida. Has nothing to do
with MACtion.

Sell your soul for 700K, and act like it's 10 million! If they switched all of these mid-week games to Saturdays, I gotta believe they'd more than make up the 700k from the increased attendance, concessions, parking, apparel sales, etc. etc.
I wonder what the revenue difference is for a home game with 10-12 thousand fans vs. 2 thousand?

Better to just play another million dollar P5 road game, scrap MACtion, and go back to Saturday's

Dear EagleTough,
I agree, especially the point of another million dollar payout. However, didn't the article say we (MAC) is under contract until 2025? Would there be any way to get out of the contract? We still have eight years to go otherwise.
