as much as fans on forums in general luv to castigate their team's coach and Carey gets his share and then some...let me add this to his pluses and minuses

teams are most often directly a reflection of their coach,,,,and the Huskies have never wavered in face of adversity and found ways to win many games....they play hard most every down.... Like it or not: those traits reflect favorably on Carey...and I AM NOT suggesting he is Saban or Meyer or even Doeren

In the post game press conference, Huff himself said he was fine and would be ready to play next week.

When the offense took a knee in the final minute of the first half, the same guy was yelling: "You're wasting valuable time!" I don't like taking a knee at the end of the half, but why risk a turnover when you're going to get the ball back after halftime.

I'm often critical of Carey taking a knee at the end of the half, but yeah, I was perfectly fine with it in that situation.

I have seen many cases where a team scores a TD with only one minute or less to start the drive. But then I have also seen many teams turn the ball over and sometimes even give up a TD while trying to get a quick score in that final minute.

When your gameplan is all about ball control, as the Huskie's try to be, you sit on the ball and give yourselves one more minute of TOP.

03-banghead one of several errors last nite partly attributed to playing conditions -----------------
ESPN broadcaster Desmond Howard --- a Heisman winner and Super Bowl MVP noted -- it was Beebe's job to yell FIRE FIRE or whatever is the code is to get away from the ball when your teammates' back is to the incoming football...
If you watch the replay you will see Beebe waving his hands and most likely yelling these words. But I'm sure with the wind blowing so hard I'm sure Foster couldn't hear very well. Unless you were in the stands and not watching this on TV, there is just no way to understand how hard it was out there to field kicks and punts. There is no way this was either Beebe's or Foster's fault. The conditions were just tough. Neither team could handled the returns very well. Even WMU's returner (the best in the MAC) struggled returning kicks. But Carey kept this guys fighting and that's why we pulled this one out.

I saw that too and I thought that the announcers attempts to call him out for not doing what he was clearly doing were inappropriate.

That said, on the whole I thought that the announcers for the game did a good job. Desmond Howard generally seems to respect NIU, the MAC and the athletes that play in the conference.

When the parents came in to see the players after the game, I heard Huff had a boot on, but he was ok and it was just to be careful.

Did anyone comment on Don Beebe talking on the telecast about Huff and how he could be a great NFL player? He has the skills and body and is a special player.

Yea I kind of like Howard as an announcer for our games actually.

Wow!

It's refreshing to read a post on this forum giving Carey credit for anything.

You are likely right about conditions making communication on the field very difficult.

Huskies were in the spirit of the holidays and gift wrapped WMU 21 points.

NIU holding them to FG late inside 20 yard line after 74 yard bomb was HUGE.

I very much welcomed and appreciated info from a few sources re: Huff being OK to play.

Thanx to all for assorted clarifications submitted here.
