Despite a game where we didn't move the ball effectively (9 assists) or protect the ball very well (18 turnovers), we gutted this one out. Lacey Suggs and Jenny DeGraaf each nearly has double-doubles, posting 15 points and 8 rebounds apiece. Chinyere Bell also had 15 points in the effort.

Where we won this game was at the free throw line. We were there 19 times compared to Wofford's 11, and shot at a better clip (73.7 %) than the Terriers did (63.6 %)

Chalk this up as another win we would NOT have gotten in season's past.

We've now won 3 of our last 4, improving to 4-4 vs. D-I competition with just one more non-conference game to go. We are # 200 in the RPI and will have plenty of opportunities to improve on that in CAA play. The league is ranked 10th in D-I based on RPI.

Next up: A very winnable home game against Georgia St. (1-6 vs D-I) on Thursday @ 1 PM.

Great to have the Ladies playing so well now. New coach definitely has things going in the right direction.
Can we really make that statement on such a small sample size? 05-stirthepot
I'm obviously kidding, but the conversation has to work both ways.....

Yes Mullet Jr., because she's been a HC before and was successful there as well.

haha F'ers... Oddly he's been more positive.
For the record, i don't think it should matter if they were a HC or not. If one sample size is too small to judge in one case, it's too small in the other as well. Can't have it both ways

I think it has more to do with positive support for a good start with the women's program. I do expect more. Because we have three previously successful head coaches on this staff. It works up to me as a winning formula. Now it just needs to reflect that on the court.

We're drawing from a large sample of HC experience from Coach Barefoot. McGrath had zero HC experience from which to draw from.

The Wes Miller discussion is relevant here. His first 4 years at the HC level were lousy. His 5th year? Stellar. So of course it matters if he/she was a HC or not previously.

Keatts coming in and having great success right away as a HC was an aberration, not the rule.

Now, can we NOT turn the lone Women's thread into a Men's thread please?

The Beat and the Beard actually discussed that in their last podcast. Mike (I think it was Mike) mentioned that perhaps Keatts' experience as a HC at Hargrave Military Academy (Prep School) gave him something to build on there and at the least afforded himself an experience in a HC position prior to taking the reigns at UNCW.

RE: 2017-18 Women's Basketball Thread
I watched the second half...nice to see a competitive team, and there are a few nice pieces to build around in the future (Crisp and Suggs). Degraaf had a nice game and I like Raque as a complimentary player as well. I really liked Riley's article on Suggs; great to see hard work and perseverance rewarded.
