This game may well decide who represents the MAC East in Detroit.

On the Western side should there be a tie in the MAC West, the crossover games will not be kind to NIU.

NIU played Kent State, BGSU and Buffalo. All have 2 Conference wins only with a game left.

CMU played Ohio, Miami Ohio and Kent State. Ohio has 5 wins, Miami has 3 wins.
Toledo played both Ohio and Akron, and will play BGSU.
WMU also played Kent State and Buffalo like NIU however Akron at 4-2 is a better opponent then BGSU.

Another thought:

For the MAC to have a ranked representative Ohio needs to win. They got two votes in the coaches pole. A 10-2 Ohio at this stage representing the East would look far more respectable then a 7-5 Akron team. Then again I am a biased NIU supporter with a grudge from 2005 when a 7-5 Akron team beat us in Detroit 30-31 on that Hail Mary pass and this board went crazy! I still remember that empty feeling in my stomach, the disappointment after waiting going through 2002, 2003 and 2004 winning the MAC West and not going to Detroit.
I wanted that MAC title so badly and an unremarkable Akron team which ended up 7-6 went to a Bowl game and we stayed home after finally beating Toledo.
So go Ohio beat Akron and goto Detroit.

Do it for the 2005 NIU team please!

CMU beating up on KSU.
They have beaten Ohio.
Beaten us the last three years.
If they win easily tonight they might be a much tougher team than WMU.

Having two MAC games at the same time on a weeknight seems to harm the MAC fan base.
Low fan turnout, the teams on ESPNU seemingly getting far less coverage then ESPN2 while the season ticket holders have less Saturday home games.
The players seem to be suffering from missed classes, and perhaps the stress of these cold poorly attended weeknight games may be causing erratic performances on the field.
Toledo beats NIU then gets unexpectedly smashed by Ohio. Ohio U are 13.5 favorites and are losing to Akron University by 10 points.
While this may be entertaining to some, it may be hurting the players and fans.
I hope that next year we see less weekday games and more Saturday games.

There is a lot of MAC ugly being played tonight. The combined passing percentage in both games is barely over 50%. The MAC is not good this year; with basic execution we should easily win our last two games.
