If Pastner had learned to grow as a coach, we would have been fine. Unfortunately, he chose not to be more self aware and the program slowly declined. That decline has continued because the powers that be made a lazy hire.

Don't get me wrong, I still take issue with the way he left, but he said Memphis basketball was good before he came along and would be good after he was gone. He said Memphis basketball wasn't about any one person.

Pastner went mental. It can happen when you get stuck in that positive mindset searching for the next positive affirmation, i.e. tidbit programming that will save your ass.

Cal understood human nature better.
