I'll be in the stands again, just like I was last game. Save the self-righteous garbage. We support the players. We support the program. We are allowed to be critical of the administration and coaches.
To be clear, any "vitriol" that you have seen come from me is directed at the concept of the original post (not even the original poster-wings) and nothing else.
This board is a case study in personal agendas. As with most of the posts on here, it has been taken way off-course.
The original post said stay home to send a message to the coaching staff. My response was that is NOT how you support seniors on senior night.
I think that my personal opinion in this matter is no more or less "self-righteous" than the original post.
I am in the fortunate position of being able to attend the game, so I will be there. I understand that is not the case given the mid-week, earlier start time for everyone. Even if the fence sitters stay home because of their frustration with the team, I have no issue with that. I do have an issue with the idea of saying you support the team yet encouraging others to actively skip the game to "send a message". As I said ealier, being critical and being supportive aren't mutually exclusive concepts and there are a million ways to represent both.
I just don't personally believe that you can impact positive change by taking your ball and going home.

RE: Nov. 8 Kickoff Against Kent State Set For 7 PM on CBSSN
As I mentioned in another post... I was perched quite high atop rage mountain after that CMU loss... that drive back to GR was rough... my poor father had to listen to me spew endless livid commentary about Lester and this team...
However... as with every bad loss that drives us nuts... it wears off... reality comes back into focus and then you go back and read some of your own vitriol from the night in question... I was hot... I was about as heated over this program as I can remember... I should have waited to go posting... but I needed to vent with people who felt my same rage! I swore I wasn't going to go to another game this season... I got ahead of myself. I will be at the Kent game supporting the team... especially the seniors that were a major part of last seasons epic run to the MACC and Cotton Bowl..
GO BRONCOS! No matter what - we all still bleed brown and gold...

Yep, it was the perfect storm to really raise the temperature on the board. Favored, at home, and blow a 4th quarter lead to our arch rival.
Adds a layer of disappointment to the season, but the sun still comes up the next day and you move on and look ahead.

The attendance for Cubit's last game (a senior day game) was 10,338.... in a stadium that seats 30k. Say again?

Exactly. There are two ways to respond to a disappointing loss like that, you can quit or you can get angry and come out with an attitude so it doesn't happen again next week.
Every game left on our schedule is winnable if we play 2 halves the way we played the first half against CMU. We have two home games, even though one of them is against probably the strongest team in the conference-Toledo. But anything can happen in a game, as we saw last Wednesday. This is the MAC, afterall!

Anyone remember the loss to EMU during PJ's 1st or 2nd season? The game was at Ypsilanti and PJ made some VERY questionable play calls in a tight game when we were in the Red Zone. I don't recall the specific events, but the anger after the loss was palpable and nearly to the level we see in this forum currently. And we all know how PJ ended up.
Get pissed, get angry-vent. That's what being a fan is all about. But don't quit on the team. Better times will come.

What makes you think better times will come? Is it the Elmhurst experience? Does he have some vision that he conveys that we can all get behind? What specifically is Lester doing that you see is making you go, yeah, we are going to be real good next year?

Are you implying that a small crowd on that given day was the reason that Cubit was let go? Avg. attendance for that entire season was just north of 12K, btw. You and I both know attendance on that snapshot of a day was barely a splinter in the coffin, let alone the final nail.
Look, I get it, you are upset and not coming to the game. I'm not arguing with you. I just disagree with the position of sending a message to coaches via attendance, especially this early in their tenure. Unlike some of the brovado filled rants on this board, I don't need to be the only right opinion. You do you.

I keep waiting for this... besides blind chimp-like optimism and hope.

I've been a WMU Football fan since 1973, I've seen the programs come and go, the up and the down. Maybe that allows me to put things in perspective easier than younger fans? The only real stinker head coach I've seen in all that time was Jack Harbaugh, and believe me you could see he was an A-hole from the get go. Was NO doubt about it. Lester is much, MUCH superior to that-in talent and in attitude.

And since 1973 (almost 50 years) you only saw 2 MAC Championships, one of which was last year. So while some of us might be younger than you, the fact remains that our recent history is littered with a lot more downs than ups.

Been with the program for 25 years now. I've seen one MAC title. One.
I've seen countless excuses, though.

RE: Nov. 8 Kickoff Against Kent State Set For 7 PM on CBSSN
Quote:Some of us caught a lot of sh!t for buying into and believing in what Fleck built early on, even when it wasn’t “popular” and people couldn’t see past the W’s and L’s during the infamous Nicholls and 1-11 season.
Same applies here.
And that first year with Fleck, there was no excuse to be THAT bad. Losing to a bad D1AA team + our only win being a sort of gift against what Should be a good D1AA team on the road, but losing to everyone else.
Thing is though, Fleck is inspirational, motivational, detail-oriented, etc -- keeps the wheels churning, etc.
What I worry about Lester is that he's not that so much. And he's in a different position than Fleck was coming in. Great O-line, great RBs, to at least not lose to sh!tty teams despite QB+WRs in a total overhaul. I would say it'd be more like Fleck's 2nd year, not his 1st. Instead, it's not up to that par. Losing to Akron at home like that, and CMU AT HOME like that... (wince). Season's not over, but going 6-6 -- not cool.
That said, if we go 6-6 and win a bowl against a sh!tty team to go 7-6, that'll help make up for it and get the wheels churning for next year. And it is Lester's 1st year.
