RE: UTA are Sun Belt Hoops Favs for Men ... & Women
I think the men's and women's side are both going to be very competitive. UTA is the favorite on the women's side because they return all key players, including a 6'5" center. Little Rock is ALWAYS good. Troy's style of play makes them scary. Louisiana is at the point where they're going to compete every year. They were in the finals of the tournament a year ago.

Any one of five teams can win it on the men's side. UTA has their two best players returning, although they suffered a couple of losses, they were the league's deepest team last year.

Ga. St., Ga So and Troy have the bulk of their players returning. Louisiana has four starters back, plus three P5 transfers make them a much deeper team than they were a year ago.

This is going to be a lot of fun.

Being preseason favorites is mildly interesting, but, to me, is meaningless. This is a very competitive conference, and how often do we see preseason favorites fail to live-up to expectations? I have not done a study, but it's plenty.

Who plays who?

Of the five favorites:
UTA: Plays just one game against Troy, USA, AState, LR
GS: Plays Louisiana, ULM, Coastal and App just once
GSU: Same as GS
LA: Plays Coastal, App and the Georgia schools just once
Troy: Plays the Arkansas Schools and Texas schools just once

The Arkansas schools play Texas and Alabama just once
App and Coastal play Louisiana and Georgia just once
Texas State is the same as UTA
ULM is the same as Louisiana
South Al is the same as Troy

Not sure anybody outside of GSU and even some people at GSU understand how good D'Marcus Simonds is. Going to be a difference maker this year.

meaningless is right. already the lady mavs have begun to slide. started out looking good this year then took a turn toward average. maybe the guys will find their shooting touch otherwise both preseason rankings a bit off.

The women did lose the reigning defensive player of the year and preseason 1st SBC to an ACL tear. Don’t know what’s up with the guys.
