Yup, we had to run track when I played in Junior High School. Because I was so durn slow, I ran the 880 just to keep my coach happy. It turned out to be the perfect distance for me...the sprinters hated it because it was too long; cross-country guys disliked it because it was too short. Between that and running steps and ladders, I kept myself in great shape for basketball season.

Back in the day, I think it was three miles. My wife ran cross country as an 8th grader and posted a PB that - when extrapolated - would have placed her in the top 15 in Tennessee at the XC State Championship meets my daugher ran in high school.

You married your wife when she was in 8th grade?

After getting outta the police academy I vowed not to do any long distance running ever again (Started w 1.5 mile runs and finished at 6 miles). If you can out run me for over 100 yards you deserve to get away.

No, I do not live in East Tennessee. 03-wink

I meant to state that my wife was an excellent runner in her youth and would have placed highly in meets even today.
