Georgia State vs Georgia Southern rivalry thread
Coach Shawn Elliott used to be a player and coach for App State. He knows who the bad guys are. Georgia State marches to Statesboro with war paints and panthers' banners up high. 35-17 good guys

RE: Georgia State vs Georgia Southern rivalry week
Quick question: can we please change the name of our rivalry from “Modern hate” or whatever to something a little less stupid?
Also GAST is gonna have a hard time trying to figure out what kind of offense to prep for this week. We have no idea what Lunsford is gonna try to change up this week.
Panthers walk into a 3/4 full Paulson stadium and get an early lead but the Eagles rally to a 37-31 2OT victory. Fans rush the field at Paulson for the first time since winning the conference in 2014.

Not gonna lie, this one scares me for the Panthers. We need Manning to be accurate to win.

I see no reason to worry about the offense. I know we can be up and down, but Southern hardly poses a threat to anyone defensively, including the worst teams in the country. I'm more worried that they find a way around with their offense. Honestly I doubt that they're suddenly gonna remember how to play football (changing their playbook halfway through the season normally would spell disaster, but it's not like it can get worse) and so we should have nothing to worry about, but it's always concerning when we're looking for bowl eligibility/have a shot at a title, and so it's reasonable to be concerned. But it'll show us how well CSE keeps their heads together going into what should be an easy game (and therefore a trap). I hope he's stuck pictures of the "Paulson Stadium North" banner on each players locker. They need to have the same fire in them that they've had the past few years.

I honestly believe either we kill them, or they kill us.

Can tell State fans have not watched us play.
People think our fans are being overly dramatic, but we aren't. I think Statesboro High School's defensive coaching staff could take over and just run a simple cover 2 every down and we'd be no worse.

Nothing official about that name, that's all Ben Moore's doing.

Pistol option or flexbone option...isn't it all assignment football? our D needs to be disciplined, everyone stay locked to his man, and don't miss tackles. Thankfully we have linebackers with lateral speed and lockdown CBs to leave on islands so safeties can load up in the box (basically same stuff we did last 2 years). Hope Kado Brown isn't a good passer..lol Where is that promising QB from last year? Shuman? He had a cannon for an arm.

If we’re going to just completely rip off UGA and GT at least call it, “A dirty, new hate” or something. And I mean it’s not even that new. We’ve been playing eachother in basketball for quite a while and have always had a small thing going with them.

We get our first win and even up the overall series. Not sure how exactly, since we have no defense whatsoever, but Summers' firing has the fanbase mildly fired up and we should have a good crowd.

How about not naming it until we get more games under our belts. Let it happen organically, and not make it seem like a cheap knock off.

If we can somehow find a voodoo witch doctor that causes all the panthers defenders and ball carriers to fall down at opportune times during the game, I think we stand a chance.
I know Elliot is big on the run game, maybe he'll come in and try to run the ball and control the clock. That would give us a chance. If he lets Manning air it out then Penny Hart will probably set a record for receiving yards in Paulson Stadium. And I'm not being hyperbolic at all.

Our defense is some kind of special right now..
Here is where this year's defense ranks among all our modern era numbers
PPG Difference: -23.14 (2nd place is -8.91 in 2009)
Total Defense: 457.3 (2nd place is 412.4 in 2008)
Rush Defense: 213.7 (2nd place is 185.7 in 1996)
The thing is nobody is doing anything special to us.. just running basic plays and getting massive chunks of yards.

ALL defense is assignment football. That's just another one of those catch phrases that people use.
Don't really have to worry about us throwing the ball because we don't really do it for some reason, and when we do it's on long to-gain situations where we throw way short of the sticks. We had some really odd play selections against Troy that I couldn't understand. I also saw an Air Raid team use more presnap motion than us, and that's normally a hallmark of option teams.
Basically, we're not doing anything well at this point....except maybe kickoffs.
I'd say if Gast just wants to run on us that we could stop that because that's what we've always been good at, but for some reason our DC doesn't like to stop run games at all. We have a senior DT who's great against the run but hasn't seen the field much. We're hyper aggressive which leads to defenders being out of position with narrow feet and poor tackling technique.
I'd love to say we're going to beat Gast, but I don't see it happening this year just because of how terrible we are at pretty much everything. Can't wait for Hammer22 to show up laughing like the idiot he is about "shutting down that tecmo offense."
Any posters coming to the game?

Exactly... its a lazy statement.

RE: Georgia State vs Georgia Southern rivalry week
The old moniker for this game has been dropped from Ben's vocabulary.
I've watched almost every GaSot game this year and the Panthers matchup very favorably against this team on both sides of the ball. Our rush defense is good and if you do try to air it out, the same secondary that has burned you guys for the past 2 years is in place. And the defense is ULM bad, which is why Manning has to be accurate.
Still hard to count out the x-factor of a super motivated team in an energized Paulson South. There are still playmakers like Campbell, Ramsby, and to a lesser extent Werts that are capable of big plays at any time.
Agree with Stan -- I could see this being very one-sided either way.

Why name it? All the rivalries didn't get named in their 3rd year. Something tells me UGA/UF wasnt called the world largest cocktail party in 1936. The name that sticks will come out of thin air and make sense because of something that happened. Otherwise, if it has to have a name, keep it simple and stick to geography. The fall line is directly between Atlanta and Statesboro. Better than the I-16 to I-75 battle or the Truck Toll lane battle.

He's not our DC.
A guy that was 0-12 USM and 0-12 UCF is our DC. I guess he's going for the hat trick.
I'd take Rowell at this point.
