No clue how he gets a job like Tenn after being a DC at OSU. He has never been impressive to me as a HC.

Also, Dan Mullen has to be a disappointment a bit.

Totally agree re: Schiano. He had a total of one good season at Rutgers and never even shared a BE title. Had a reputation as a good recruiter but a poor gameday coach. He had a .500 overall and 28-48 conference record at Rutgers. The fact he's a legit candidate at a school like Tennessee must be a reflection of the lack of high end coaching prospects relative to the amount of openings this year.

If I recall correctly Butch Jones was well down their list of options as well. Kiffin and Dooley tanked that program.

Frost passed on UF. Prolly safe to assume he's headed to Nebraska.

Greg S. is a comical hire for Tennessee. I guess at this point we can juuuuust about write them off as a major player. It's been forever since they were relevant, now it's just about written in stone. Wonder what Tee Martin is doing? I thought he was supposedly successful as a coordinator. Can't get any love from his school tho.

Schiano? They fired Butch and paid him $8.2 million to go away for that???

BTW, wonder how things will work out at Arkansas considering they also don't have an AD.

The real death knell for any of these schools would be to hire HWSNBN. It would be hilarious.

If he really does want to coach again, one would assume he is throwing his name into the hat for these openings...

The Vols have many flaws...

They wanted Mullen or Matt Campbell but get Schiano. Dumpster fire in Knoxville.

Guess Tennessee finally accepted that they're an average college football program.

I would suspect at least half of the fans who are upset probably never set foot in a UT classroom.03-shhhh

Maybe we could capitalize on the fact that athletes (probably) don't want to play for coaches that allegedly covered up child rape, and get some quality transfers from Tennessee?

From Hawk's link (Vols Nation better get used to that grimmace in the picture - very Butch Jones like):

From here, there are really two courses of action. Either athletic director John Currie sticks to his guns in the face of the public backlash and is confident that this is the right decision to move the program forward, or he folds under the pressure, a deal ultimately doesn’t get done and cedes control of the Tennessee football program to mob rule.

And it looks like Currie is walking through Door No. 1.

Sources: John Currie is in Columbus finalizing deal to make Greg Schiano next Tennessee coach. Announcement coming tonight. https://sports.yahoo.com/sources-greg-sc...07145.html

My good friend, a proud Tennessee alum and Bearcat season ticket holder, a guy many of you have met, is apoplectic about the hire.

That would be such a hysterically bad hire.

In all seriousness, I can't stand the guy primarily because of some the games we played against Rutgers when he coached there, but why is it such a bad hire?

His is a brand of football from 25 years ago. Won't succeed in he SEC. And if people thought Jones personality was a bad fit for Knoxville, wait till they get a dose of a New Jersey boy.

I also wonder if the stuff Chip Kelly runs is a little past it's expiration date.

I think Mullen will do well at Florida.

I mean...Schiano did have one decent year at Rutgers. He was on course for an AAC type job, not freaking TN. Embarrassing hire.

He's a marginal at best, retread head coach:

Rutgers 68-67 overall/28-48 Big East (11 seasons - 0 Conference Titles)
Tampa Bay 11-21 (2 Seasons)

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, but Rutgers was a hot mess when he took the job, and some coaches just aren't cut out for NFL head jobs (e.g.Saban).
