Represent the "A!"

Quote:Alabama 'interested' in hiring former Tennessee coach Butch Jones

Nick Saban confirmed Wednesday that Alabama has interest in hiring former Tennessee coach Butch Jones.

Saban said he's not sure if the hiring has been finalized yet, but Jones was at the Crimson Tide's pro day on Wednesday and was wearing an Alabama pullover.

AL.com first reported in late February that the Tide was in talks with Jones about an offensive analyst position and that Jones had been in Tuscaloosa to meet with Saban.

"I don't know where that is," Saban said Wednesday. "We have issues that we need to go through to be able to hire somebody from another school. I haven't gotten a report on where that is right now. We are interested in him being a part of our staff."

The 50-year old Jones has been out of football since Tennessee fired him in November. Jones was 34-27 in his five seasons as the Vols' head coach. Tennessee replaced him in December with then-Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.

Jones was previously the head coach at Cincinnati (2010-12) and Central Michigan (2007-09).

Jones would become the latest former head coach to join Alabama's staff as an analyst. Others like Lane Kiffin, Steve Sarkisian and Mike Locksley have been analysts at Alabama after time as a head coach.

Saban has done a great job at bringing in guys like Jones. Saban benefits from it too.

If you can hack it and graduate from Saban Finishing School for the Former Head Coach, it’s usually pretty beneficial for the next stop on the career ladder.

After he got canned from UT I thought Butch would wind up coaching in the AAC this coming year. Now that he's working for Saban, I can see him coaching in a P5 next year (somewhere like Illinois which will likely be vacant after this season).

I know I'd be happy like he is in the pictures with the Tennessee buyout and a new lease on life with the best college football coach in America. Talking shop with Belichick too...
