Game Week: BSU
It is Sunday morning, the 'traditional' start of game week (actually started Friday according to our 2017 FB calendar).

This game is finally, at home, and against a team which is very beatable.

This season has been so crazy I don't know what to think about it other than a win Thursday night would be nice.

This team has not given up and I don't look for a let up unless (and until) they lose game #7. That could be a downer.

If a decent team can lose six in a row by the slimiest of margins, they can probably win four in a row... However, a statistician might think both statistically unlikely.

Game will be on CBS SN. I assume many MAC FB fans will be watching our game.

Only other comment: Those who bet EMU in Vegas are probably doing very well these days. We keep beating the spread but not our opponents.

Thursday will be different. We should be a big favorite and I'd be happy with say a 10 - 14 point win (which will probably be less than the point spread). I can see say a 28 - 17 EMU win.

I really want to see EMU take a commanding lead into the 4th quarter so that Stiebeling can get some action.

It would be good for him, but I wonder how much it really means.

Lest I be wrong, our plans for 2018 are a couple of dual-threat QBs so he doesn't project well for 2018.

Stiebeling is a 2017 EMU Qb.

Dear steve,
That's exactly what they are.....plans. We will have to see what the future holds, and remember the last time we had a dual threat quarterback. How did that work? If, Eastern can have a dual threat like Ohio State right now, hey, I'm all for it. Let's just not count our chickens yet.

The kid deserves an opportunity to show what he can do. It's easier to make a plan for the future when you actually know what you currently have.

Ken,

I have a hard time giving you a good reply. I honestly didn't pay any attention to what, if anything, I heard about Steibling during spring ball (for obvious reasons, we have Roback as the starter).

We've in recent years brought in a number of h.s. QB recruits who simply who were not FBS QBs.

Dear steve,
I totally agree with your statement about bringing quarterbacks who were not FBS, the problem was, we thought they were. Hopefully that is now in the past. WoodenNickle is also correct with his statement.

Our last supposed dual-threat QB was 175 lbs soaking wet, and got injured every 3rd hit. Grissom & Jackson are both 6'2 and about 210-215 lbs. Grissom seems to be the better passer but no reason you couldn't use both, in the read option game, depending on how much of the offense is going to based around that scheme, or how many direct QB runs will be incorporated.

I could be totally wrong, but I just don't see next year's OC trying to turn one of these guys into a pocket passer. Build the offense around your QB strengths. Hell, just steal the Ohio State or Clemson playbook, and start there.

RE: Game Week: BSU
Good luck to Stiebeling, not trying to ignore him, just don't see us bringing back the Roback/Keen offense with another pocket passer with decent athletic ability.

First, because this scheme/OC has struggled mightily (with a 5th yr. senior at the helm)

Second, because of the style of play of the 3 other QB's on the roster that will be competing for the job.

Oops, forgot about Hutchinson as well........maybe he comes out of nowhere to beat them all out, haha.

Should be a very interesting offseason!

I was going to post (and didn't) similar to what you posted.

Comparing Grissom and Bell is like compare Kate Upton and Twiggy (for us baby boomers).

EMU seems to have focused on recruiting dual-threat QBs, and I doubt pocket passers are what we will do next year.

As E'Tough noted, spring ball should be interesting if Grissom is there...

EDIT: Here is Wikipedia on Twiggy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twiggy

There will be some kind of big light show. On social media, EMU Athletics is pushing the primiere of "Eastern Lights," and Wetherbee hinted on Twitter there could be fireworks as well.

We opened as 24 point favorites. They have been destroyed by every other MAC team, and we better do the same. No excuses! Time to take out some frustration and start having fun playing football again.

WMU 55-3
Akron 31-3
CMU 56-9
Toledo 58-17

The goal for the defense is a shutout.....not kidding!
Offense has maxed out twice at 27 points against Army and NIU. Better hit at least 40.

Really sick of hearing how we're the best 6 loss team in the country. Embarrassing!

I was thinking that a shutout is possible. Glad they set that as a goal.

I heard that tickets can be had for $3. Translation: we know that 6 p.m. on a Thursday sucks for everyone. But TV money trumps fans any day. Nothing emu can do about this one.

The shutout comment was just me talking, but I certainly hope the D and Neathery has the same goal.

Actually, I'd rather see the offense score 50 than the D get a shutout. We already know the D is good, time for the offense to start clicking.

There will be fireworks.
Ypsi City Council member Pete Murdock posted a notice to the community on the Ypsi Talk Facebook group (about 3000 members) as a way to alert folks who live in the area to the noise.

So many games, so little time...

For those who think the World Series is boring (most do not), future EMU opponents are playing on television tonight and tomorrow night.

Anthony Winbush, BSU's starting DE, is a playmaker. He tweaked his ankle last week, but did return to the game. He'll probably be mostly healthy for us.

Drew Plitt, the redshirt freshman 4th stringer, will likely start for them. He came in early in the game after an injury to Blair, and finished 15-34 for 97 yards. Longest completion was 23 yards. He appears less mobile than Blair, who he replaced.

Another note from their last game: Toledo scored on plays from 88, 87, 71, 67, 63, 35, 2, and 1 yards. You'll notice most of those were big plays. They gave up more chunk plays that didn't result in scores too.

Hoping we can get a functional offensive scheme going, and are able to build some confidence at OL and in the backfield at RB too. Maybe continue to get Buschman going as well?

The weather is supposed to be cold and windy which will impact our passing game. This weather is made for teams that have a balanced attack and can run the ball. I hope we can score 30 pts.
