This should be a fun event and I'm glad that Drexel is being included. The press release states that Drexel STH's will be contacted next week regarding tickets, so it will be nice to be able to attend this game, as probably my only chance to see a game in Nova's old house.

The time of the Villanova game has changed to 9:00. The Nova women's game is still starting at 6. So I have no idea what they're planning on doing for over an hour between games.

BTW, tickets are STILL available for this game. Even though it's an exhibition game, it's pretty insulting that it's not sold out yet. Villanova has a ridiculously large fan base that can sell out the Wells Fargo Center. They play a local team in their dinky little on-campus gym and can't sell it out. I wonder if it's because the tickets are too expensive for an exhibition game, their snooty fans don't want to squeeze into uncomfortable bleachers, or their snooty fans don't want to see Drexel.

To take a positive spin on the first half, we gave up 3 fewer points to Villanova compared to West Chester in the first half and even without Stretch, the big guys (Tadas, Demir, and Doles) have scored half our points.

We end up losing by 21, 87-68.
Biggest surprise of the game is Tadas Kararinas with 16 points. That is encouraging for sure. 6-7 shooting 3-3 from three point in 19 minutes of play. I guess it is time to trade in the Iceland flags for Lithuanian ones. Green and Doles both knocked down a three in the game as well.

It was a rough night for the guards. Lee (4-16), Harper (3-13), and Isabell (2-9) struggled from the floor.

It is never good to get blown out but I think there were some encouraging signs. Once the season get going for real, the competition won't quite be as tough as Villanova either. Hopefully nothing too serious with Overton and Williams, neither of whom played.

So I"m going to preface this by saying that I do not intend to nitpick you..

Coming into the game last night, I said to myself, "If we can get out of here losing by less than 20, I'll be happy as long as I see something from the team." Well, we lost by 19. To a top 10 ranked team.

Granted, they went deeper in their bench, but so did we. The three guards struggled, but generally I"m happy, especially with the front court. Tyshawn didnt look like a senior out there, and he was largely outplayed by the others around him. You cannot, however, judge the big mans' play by this one game. That said, I'm VERY happy with our freshmen.

I just hope that Kararinas isnt this year's Goran!

Clearly you should nitpick, since I can't do math. It is like I went to Delaware or something.

I agree that losing like that to the #6 team in the country isn't unexpected and like you I saw some encouraging things, but it would have been nice if we wouldn't have been blown away right from the start.

Watching the game (which is still available at http://www.villanova.com/collegesportsli...dia=563772 for those whose might not have seen it live), it seemed like things were just slightly off offensively which kept us from being able to stick with them. It is just the second exhibition game and with Isabell and Harper being out for a year, not unexpected. Hopefully a little more chemistry with Lee can develop as the season progresses. Defensively though we still seem a long way off from where we need to be.

A couple encouraging quotes from Spiker in the COBL recap. One it doesn't sound like Overton and Williams will be out long. The other is that he wasn't necessarily surprised by what Tadas did. For a guy who seemingly has never really played much in either his prep school or with the national team, he didn't look like a deer in the headlights out there. If we can get some consistent production from him, that would be big going forward. Doles and Demir didn't look too bad either.

The downside to Tadas' play against Villanova is he'll make a scouting report now. I wouldnt have blamed Spiker and Company if they'd told him he wasnt allowed to show 3's until January.

After LaSalle played Shippinsburg yesterday, Dr. John was quoted in the Inquirer about how he wants to play DI competition but the rules won't allow it for exhibition games. Does anyone know how Villanova was able to play Drexel in an exhibition game. Did Nova go to the NCAA and say that playing Drexel is just like playing a Division II team?

While perhaps that would have been a legitimate argument after the past few years, the NCAA made an exception to the rules this year that allowed teams to play an additional D1 exhibition game to benefit the relief efforts. So there have been quite a few of these benefit exhibitions. UNCW actually played in what was called a jamboree where they played a half (with a running clock I believe) against three different schools including UNC.

Other than those benefits, the rules are the same where anything public (like ours against West Chester) must be against a non-D1 school. Scrimmages against other D1 schools must be without fans. I would assume we played one of those as well, at least it would have been allowed.

Both coaches had their funny moments... Very strange to play in an totally empty gym except for limited table crew. Other than that, I won't/can't say much.
