RE: Is there ANY TV for CAA Basketball this year?
North Carolina at Elon and today's Northeastern win over Alabama in Charleston were on TV. OOC games on TV other than Northeastern's home games are:

Virginia Tech vs. Northeastern tomorrow at 11:00 A.M. on ESPN2 (Northeastern's third game of the tournament will probable be on ESPN, ESPN2, or ESPNU)
College of Charleston vs. Louisiana State in Orlando on Thursday November 22 at 7:00 P.M. on ESPNU
UNC Wilmington at North Carolina on Wednesday December 5 at 9:00 P.M. on ESPN2
Drexel at Connecticut on Tuesday December 18 at 7:00 P.M. on SNY (not national TV but better than nothing)

RE: Is there ANY TV for CAA Basketball this year?
For those of you who are in envy of other conferences who have deals with ESPN+, I will say this. I watched Drexel play LaSalle on the Plus today. For a subscription service, the quality of the broadcast was just as crappy as the games that we see for free on CAA.TV. Fortunately it was a free trial, that I plan to cancel, so I didn't have to shell out even $5 to watch it.

While I agree that the CAA's television situation is terrible, I am happy that I can still watch every CAA game for free, and not through a sham of a pay service. Hopefully the league will get a contract to get some more games on real TV in the near future. But for now, I'm fine with not being on ESPN+.

RE: Is there ANY TV for CAA Basketball this year?
When Hofstra went to Marshall, ESPN+ stopped working every commercial. It stops during halftime of soccer games. Back when games were on ESPN3 for free, I don't remember having those problems. ESPN+ has four of Hofstra's six OOC away games, and I get it for free because I was paying for ESPN Insider, which became part of ESPN+. Somebody said that you can complain that ESPN+ isn't free or you can buy one fewer drink a month and spend that on ESPN+. Given that the CAA streams for free, I'm fine with CAA.TV rather than them using ESPN+ (and I prefer CAA.TV if it works better), but ESPN+ has so many games in so many sports that it's not worthless in general. Furthermore, if every conference that is on ESPN+ streamed for free on their own website, it would be harder to find games. Having to go to a website for each conference would be like if you owned ten TVs and got each channel on only one TV. Regardless of whether it's rooting for a CAA team OOC, rooting against a team, or seeing that the score of a close game that is almost over, ESPN+ is useful at watching games or parts of games that you might not have known were happening when the game started.

I see your point. If you're a HUGE sports fan who likes to watch lots of different sports from different college and pro leagues, and the stuff on free cable isn't enough for you, then there's clearly a lot of value in the plus.

But for somebody like me, who mostly only focuses on the few teams that I root for, then it's not worth the extra money, especially when I already pay so much for cable, and get tons of sports on TV as it is.

SNY has some CAA games scheduled. A * means it is a Women's game:

January 3: William & Mary at Delaware at 7:00 P.M.
January 4: James Madison at Delaware at 7:00 P.M.*
January 13: Drexel at Delaware at 2:00 P.M.*
January 17: James Madison at Delaware at 7:00 P.M.
January 19: Towson at Delaware at 7:00 P.M.
January 26: Drexel at Delaware at 2:00 P.M.
February 10: Delaware at Drexel at 2:00 P.M.*
February 14: Delaware at Towson at 7:00 P.M.
February 15: Northeastern at Delaware at 7:00 P.M.*
February 23: Delaware at Drexel at 5:00 P.M.
February 28: Northeastern at Delaware at 7:00 P.M.

None of those games are on TV according to the CAA or Delaware, so we'll have to wait and see. None of them have Hofstra, who I root for.

Looks like a Delware TV package they put together. I would imagine these games would be on the Philly RSN too

I agree, but NBC Sports Philadelphia doesn't have their schedule in advance to check. SNY doesn't have their entire schedule through the season, but they have a page with their NCAA schedule for the season. Between Northeastern and Delaware, 15 out of 20 days with CAA Men's games will have at least one game on TV. Technically, there are 21 days. At the beginning there are 4 games on Friday, 1 on Saturday, and 4 on Sunday.
The Saturday game is between travel partners Charleston at UNCW. A normal week has 4 games on Thursday and 5 games on Saturday, and I am going to count the opening week as 2 days of games because it has 9 games. Northeastern and Delaware will be on TV at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday January 17. Saturday January 19 is the only day they will be on TV at different times, with Northeastern at 12:00 P.M. and Delaware at 7:00 P.M. I don't know how many people get NESN Plus and SNY and/or NBC Sports Philadelphia, but it's still nice to say 2 games are on TV in one day. I stopped paying for NESN as part of my Fios package, but I didn't get NESN Plus. The games on January 17 and 19 are on NESN Plus.

RE: Is there ANY TV for CAA Basketball this year?
The CAA now has William & Mary with 4 home games on Yurview On Cox Communcations, which also had their Football games. The games are Friday December 28 hosting James Madison at 7:00 P.M., Saturday January 12 hosting William & Mary at 4:00 P.M., Saturday February 2 hosting Delaware at 4:00 P.M., and Saturday February 23 hosting UNC Wilmington at 4:00 P.M. William & Mary says their December 1 game hosting George Mason was also on Yurview. That made me look for an announcement, and https://tribeathletics.com/news/2018/11/...ath=mbball is titled "Five Men’s Basketball Home Games to Air on Cox."

I just went to SNY's website, and the February 15 Women's game and February 28 Men's game aren't listed.

Live sports streaming sucked big time tonight. Hope the get it cleared up before I have to watch that cellulosic again. It was not clear and was freezing up on numerous occasions. Take CAA TV over what I saw tonight anytime. If that is the best our commish can do we need a new one.

Are any of the collegesports live games on Roku? I could not even find the UNCW/Charleston game from Saturday night. Ultimately, I found it thru the UNCW board here and watched online, not thru Roku. The coverage was terrible. Much much worse than the games on CAA.TV. Apparently the Tribe's game tomorrow night against Delaware is on YouTube. None of their home games end up on CAA.TV so I will be searching around 645 to find it somewhere. I was not sure why the UNCW/Charleston game was not on there unless it was a weekly game being covered by collegesportslive. If so, it was poor quality and not easy to find.

Delaware streams their games differently from CAA.TV, but it used to be on their own website. The fact that they do it through YouTube is something I didn't know until your post. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LG-MSfPcU04 is the YouTube link for your game tomorrow. The game will be on NBC Sports Philadelphia+, NBC Sports Washington+, and SNY, so if you're in Virginia and get NBC Sports Washington+ you don't need YouTube to watch it.

The UNCW/Charleston games was on CollegeSportsLive. Here's the CollegeSportsLive schedule:

January 5, 2019 Northeastern at Hofstra 4 p.m.
January 24, 2019 Northeastern at Towson 7 p.m.
January 31, 2019 Delaware at Elon 7 p.m.
February 7, 2019 UNCW at Drexel 7 p.m.
February 9, 2019 William & Mary at Hofstra 4 p.m.
February 14, 2019 Drexel at James Madison 7 p.m.
February 16, 2019 Northeastern at Charleston 4 p.m.
February 21, 2019 Charleston at William & Mary 7 p.m.
February 28, 2019 William & Mary at Towson 7 p.m.
March 2, 2019 Hofstra at Delaware 4 p.m.

Apparently not shown on CAA TV if on college sports live. Their app on
roku never showed the game being played. Had to download the stream on.phone and TX it to tv. Stream sucked. Glad our only other game scheduled for it is at home.

Drexel just sent out a press release about all 4 of their rivalry series games with Delaware being televised on the NBC Sports Regional Networks. As noted above in Evans post, both Men's and Women's games will be televised live by at least 1 station. Below is the link with the press release and details.

Does the CAA/teams make money on these type of deals or do they have to pay to get them broadcast? I've never been clear on how that works, and what the best option for the league as a whole is.

I get people want national broadcasts, but part of me wonders if local deals by each team works out better for everyone in the end

These games are part of Delaware's TV contract. Someone mentioned on the Delaware boards that the entire TV package is costing the school over $100k. It's great for exposure and I guess a larger CAA school like UD can afford it. But I think that each CAA school would clearly prefer some sort of league-wide TV package.

I think online streaming is a good thing and reaches many people nowadays. I also believe the next best way for each school is likely regional deals. While in theory a conference deal makes a lot of sense, I do not think there are enough followings to get it done. In the old CAA days there was plenty of interest to warrant that, now, that does not exist. It can still exist if the league grows and it constantly knocking on the door as a multiple bid conference, but I think the league has a ways to go before that would become a reality. That last big conference realignment only made the gap between the haves and have-nots larger.

But you need both streaming and regional/national TV since they reach different audiences. Streaming is good for the displaced diehard like yourself who will seek out the games and wants to have access from anywhere. But limiting the league to online will not help promote the league, as casual sports fans with hundreds of streaming options will not seek out CAA games. TV is crucial for promoting the product. There are still just a handful of cable sports networks. Casual sports fans might find your product on TV by accident and stay tuned it. That's not happening online.

I agree. I don't know how many non WM/Delaware/CAA fans are gonna flip to NBC Sports or whatever to watch W&M @ Delaware, especially since there's almost always a bigger game on ESPN. Nationwide networks would want us to pay for very limited exposure to new fans. Local networks probably don't do a ton worse in terms of people watching the games, but are a lot easier to secure for some teams.

The streams are even cheaper, but provide very little in terms of revenue or eyes (I don't know if anyone has the numbers for viewership), but they at least allow the people who care to watch the game. I am kinda surprised more teams don't run ads on their CAA streams, I feel like ads would be a decent way to fill the dead space in the streams, and provide at least a little additional revenue.
