Secondly what eveidence do you have to support that,"recruits come here because of the non-conference schedule"?

Maybe they come to NIU for other reasons.
Like an opportunity to develop their talent on the FB field?
A dream to play at the next level after college?
More playing time then at a P5 program.
The style of play might match their skills?
Maybe they visit the campus and something positive clicks?
Maybe they are instate and feel most comfortable playing for NIU,knowing their family and friends can attend home games should they wish?
Maybe they are attracted to NIU for family reasons?
Maybe they have friends going to NIU?
Maybe NIU offers more opportunities than a div 1aa school like Western Illinois?
Maybe they want to study in a field that NIU offers?
Maybe they like the Chessick center?

I have yet to hear of recruits loooking for the OOC schedule and making it their major concern?

+1. With MD’s logic, recruits would flock to a school like Mercer because they just played Alabama.....

MD just has strong distorted opinions and turns them into generalizations with no factual backing.

I would imagine its appealing to recruits that were denied by Big 10 schools to play against the big names on television for everyone to see. I would have to think that's a bigger attraction then to play around Christmas time against a mediocre bowl opponent.

That is a given as it would be meaningless to say that you think that we might be in this particular bowl against possibly this team when you recruit a player but you can point to the fact that you will get a chance to play against Iowa, Florida State, BYU, Nebraska, Maryland and Vanderbilt in the next few years.

Thank you, its common sense, but common sense doesn't always lead the way around here haha

RE: NIU Bowl Projections
I think we've all become numb to bowl season excitement as we've had so many good seasons lately that have resulted in bowl losses. Hoping we beat whomever we end up with, a fresh bowl pelt on our wall will help our fanbase get excited about the postseason again.

GO HUSKIES!

RE: NIU Bowl Projections
If we beat CMU, the bowl game will be big to me for one reason. A 10 win season. Double digit win seasons are a bench mark and hard to come by. WMU has only 1 ten win season in its entirety, last season. NIU, Toledo and Miami are all tied for the most at 7.

RE: NIU Bowl Projections
I think that beating CMU will be an achievement in itself.
CMU is the only MAC West team to have a winning record against NIU over the past 5 years.
Three straight wins.
Rod Carey is :
1-3 against CMU.
5-0 against BSU
5-0 against EMU (I believe)
4-1 against WMU
3-2 against Toledo

I think that too many fans are looking ahead of this game towards a Bowl game.

What is more important beating CMU or winning a Bowl game?

always want to win next game up - CMU , a thorn in Huskie paws.

Chips often haunted NIU as far back as during IIAC Bork era.

What is series record between Dawgs and ChipDip?

That is a tough call but I would go with a bowl win especially if Toledo beats WMU.
A bowl win at least brings a trophy.

good point plus getting Bakers proverbial mention of more practices for this and next year's roster and a feel good ending to a solid season beyond my preseason expectations...why not start conversation out hungry and greedy tor 3 wins, CMU. MACC and bowl to achieve 11 wins...

Losing to cmu and then lacking in MOJO /confidence/swagger and being outside then looking tame and lame in a bowl game would be the flipside and ultimate season ending bummer.

RE: NIU Bowl Projections
I clearly remember the NIU win in Boise over Fresno and Coach T in post game interview suggesting plane takes an extra stadium flyover when returning home to DeKalb.

Both size and winning a bowl game matters.

I also remember the play which turned the tide for LaTech vrs NIU in Independence bowl.

I also remember Garrett Wolfe running wild in win over Troy in Silicon Valley and also beating Arkansas State.

Just saying some have better memories than others. I'm simply not one of your "no one remembers the next morning" kinda fan.

CMU leads the all-time series 28-23-1.

This is another example of a good topic hijacked to the point the original topic is lost. I suggest starting your own blog so any like believers can follow you. Please let us enjoy this forum.

Good question and i believe next game is always most important. Bowl topic is a different issue because it's postseason. We need to solve the cmu issue first.
