Invite the best 2 teams within 300 miles who aren't bowling.

The Dekalb Winter Classic, brought to you by Fatty's Bar and Grill and whoever provides the hot dogs at HS. And that new hotel I can't think of the name for.

We can play it on a Tuesday night. :)

5pm or 8:30 pm start.

At least we would save $200,000 by playing at home or whatever it cost us to be playing at a second rate bowl game.

If NIU had the say, it would be a great idea.
$200 000 for a month worth of extra practice and the impact on next years FB team is well worth it. This excludes the intangibles like how the Student athletes feel about going on holiday in a warm place in a holiday like atmosphere and the lifelong memories that they would miss.

Yeah, fun place to be 20 days in December.

Longest running cold weather Bowl. I’m amazed it’s lasted this long since Boise no longer goes there.

We either are or aren't the quality team many fans here say we are. IMHO: We are young and average at best plus lacking any impact difference makers. Don't be fooled by W over Nebraska , our 8 wins come at expense of weak teams.

We've been misplaced in bowls for awhile now. We had zero business playing Boise or Marshall. ESPN just was capitalizing off The orange bowl PR. Utah state was a decent match up, but I'm guessing the team was pretty flat after blowing the MACC. I'd guess we've been the under dogs in all,of our recent bowls. If we can get a fair match up it will be a good game.

Typical Coach Carey apologist logic. Since we were destroyed in bowl games, we had no business being there. Why do we even bother to try to be competitive? We can't play against "real" teams. Lets just ignore Coach Carey getting exposed in these games and try to find another cupcake team to play.

Somehow, too, you've managed to include ESPN into your apology. They are now partially to blame for Coach Carey not being able to prepare a team for a big game.

Marshall(13-1, the loss was by 1 pt) opened as 11 point favorites. Boise state opens as 8 point favorites. As Bleacher report stated - "Boise State ranks 18th in the country in total offense and 24th in total defense, and rankings like that seem more applicable to a 10-2 or even an 11-1 team, rather than an 8-4 outfit. Northern Illinois, meanwhile, is playing with a banged-up backup quarterback." Utah state was an even match up as we opened as 1.5 point favorites.

This stuff is really simple. It surprises me sometimes when I have to explain it to you.

the espn comment is just a waste of time.

Utah St was starting a true freshman QB, no reason we shouldn’t have won that game. Coming out flat reflects on Carey’s inability to get his team ready.

It’s one thing to play better teams and lose. That’s fine. Marshall and Boise embarrassed NIU. 107-30 combined score. I wonder if Bleacher Report had Boise winning by 48 points. Boise St had more points than we had total yards.

I said nothing about Carey, but just about how they were given uneven match ups. You agreed they were facing better teams. That was the entirety of my post. Given a better match up, it will be a better game. If its Wyoming that is a fair match up and you can expect a competitive game.

RE: NIU Bowl Projections
Ive come to learn trying to predict bowl games is useless. The meaning for each team can be at such different levels, you can go from anywhere like an EMU last season that had not been to a bowl forever who wanted to play in the game, to a team that frequently makes one of the 40 bowls that it is just like an exhibition, and then you have teams that would honestly not want to be there at all. Try handicapping that result!

Disappointed that our bowl didn't leak. I refuse to watch the ESPN show.

The power of the media was on full display this weekend. Pretty much every major outlet was pushing and campaigning for the Buckeyes relentlessly. I think they repeated it enough times to convince people and the committee that Ohio St should be in.

Love it. Big ten gets left out of the playoff. Delaney is prolly going nuts.

It made Herbie walk off the set. He didn't have this bad of a reaction when NIU went to the Orange Bowl.

Imagine how the Rose Bowl feels. Then again, getting UGA & OK not a bad consolation prize. I saw UGA people on the CTA coming back from a Cubs game when they were in town for Notre Dame. They'll be there.

I don’t have ESPN on right now. Are they giving out the bowl matchups or just the playoff matches? Usually they have that bowl selection show at night but I didn’t see it in the guide this time.

Very good indeed, any team with an offense like their's would shred us. Carey needs to play Santa in this game if he wants 1) any chance of keeping him from leaving the program and 2) having any semblance of an offense.

Not sure if it means anything, but the Quick Lane Bowl twitter account just followed NIU Football. They weren’t following us as of yesterday...

North Coast Bias called this last week. https://twitter.com/northcoastbias/statu...3432890369
