Then NIU vs some CUSA teams geographically close to Dallas for another at-large bid.

SMU is confirmed to Frisco

SMU is in the AAC. They will likely play a MAC or CUSA team.

Brett McMurphy:

NIU vs. Duke in Quick Lane Bowl.

I think FAU would smash NIU, but FAU vs. Akron in the Boca Raton Bowl looks even worse.

Middle Tennessee seems to have taken the MACs slot in Montgomery as part of some shuffle that sent Akron to Boca taking an American slot.

Seems WMU and Buffalo are left out.

I don't get it, all that weeknight exposure and yet bowl committees didn't want the MAC? lol

Feel bad for Akron. They struggled bad against Toledo and FAU is even better.

I need someone to set me up with a job in 2018 to get me to Detroit. My current one shuts down at the end of the year.

FAU'S passing game is nowhere near what Toledo's is. Slow down the Owl's run game, get them in some 3rd and longs, create some turnovers, they are beatable. Problem for the Zip's is their Offense isn't very good.

RE: NIU Bowl Projections
Stewart Mandel has ranked the bowl games:
https://theathletic.com/175388/2017/12/0...-for-2017/

26. Dollar General (Dec. 23): Toledo (11-2) vs. Appalachian State (8-4). These two met last season in the Camellia Bowl, and the Mountaineers’ 31-28 victory was so thrilling they decided the two should rematch in another city in Alabama (Mobile). Watch your back, Iron Bowl.

29. Quick Lane (Dec. 26): Northern Illinois (8-4) vs. Duke (6-6). The Blue Devils sat at 4-6, then furiously rallied for the privilege of spending Christmas in Detroit. NIU may be the first team in the sport’s history to beat Nebraska and lose to Central Michigan in the same season.

31. Idaho Potato (Dec. 22): Central Michigan (8-4) vs. Wyoming (7-5). Remember Josh Allen? The projected first-round pick is expected back after missing Wyoming’s past two games to injury. This will be the highest-rated Potato Bowl ever in the Cleveland market.

32. Boca Raton (Dec. 19): FAU (10-3) vs. Akron (7-6). For some reason, FAU’s reward for winning Conference USA is to stay home and face a 7-6 MAC team. A bored Lane Kiffin may start tweeting in the second quarter.

33. Bahamas (Dec. 22): UAB (8-4) vs. Ohio (8-4). The Blazers’ return after their program’s two-year shutdown culminates in a trip to paradise. Good for them. And sorry to all the rest of us who will be carrying on with our Friday afternoon like it’s any other.
