Update on Brent
There is speculation that Brent may be done for the year, and dahbeed might get his wish to see him as the next Brandon Doughty.

Here is the situation. During Brent's freshman year in 2014, he played in the first game against Savannah State. (As an interesting side note, all three between Brent, AJ Erdely and Austin Grammer played that game and AJ had a rushing TD).

Brent played five snaps in the game and apparently sustained a foot or ankle injury (I don't recall what it was or if I even paid much attention to it), as I was actually expecting a battle between Grammer and Erdely to be the one to watch. Brent never returned to the game. Nor did he make another appearance that year.

Earlier, I was under the impression that he would not be eligible for a sixth year (and stated that here), because I thought that year was just a traditional redshirt. But here is how we know that is not the case. Brent burned his traditional redshirt as soon as he entered that game. Further, it's clear that he has already been granted a medical redshirt for the 2014 season, because this year would be his senior year, otherwise.

Given the injury he sustained at Syracuse would be season ending for any normal human being, it is now plausible that Brent will not return this year and apply for a sixth year after next year. There are obviously no guarantees he gets it but given the number of games he has missed due to injury and the fact that he meets the below stipulations I believe there is a growing likelihood that this is what's going to happen now...

> The injury must be incapacitating. That means it must be a season-ending injury.
> The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season.
> The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater.

I have no wish to see him as anything other than gone as a graduate.

What I brought up a couple years ago was that everyone ran their pieholes about Doughty's age.

The first year I saw Little Stock play I saw his age and said then he will be the same age as Doughty by his senior year and I'd like to see all the Middle folks that cried about Doughty (and other schools too) cry the same way about Stockstill.

Now you're talking about adding another year on top. He'll be Chris Weinke old if that happens.

Hate to see a kid get hurt and lose a year to injury. Hopefully he can come back strong next year.

Another interesting side note. I had Weinke in my clubhouse (AA ball) in 1996. Great guy. He always had a football in his locker. We would got out before BP and throw it around the ball field. A little over a year later he was suiting up for the Noles.

I'm a lifelong FSU fan. I remember Chris Weinke fondly. Good person as well as good football player imo. Koo that you knew him. It's why we (I) call you the Bo Jackson of Bugtussle.

Jimbo's having a rough year down in Tallahassee. I still pull for them though.

Neither of these guys are beating Alex McGough of FIU. I swear that guy has been their starting QB since the 2005 season.

RE: Update on Brent
Here's the latest from the local paper.

“Last week, he threw Monday and Tuesday, back-to-back days for the first time,” Rick Stockstill said. “Then he threw (Tuesday) and (Wednesday this week). Again, back-to-back days. Just got to take it slow. He's not cleared yet. We'll just see when we get to next week how everything goes. He's got to see the doctors. Next Tuesday he's got a follow-up with the doctors. Right now, a decision hasn't been made yet.

With the injury now having cost the junior QB a month and a half of playing time, Rick Stockstill was asked if there was any thought given to his son looking into applying for a medical redshirt.

“Yeah, that's a possibility,” the MTSU coach said. “I haven't talked to him about it, because I know what he wants to do. He wants to play. He wants to help this team win, whether it's these last five games, or he gets back in time for the last game. I know the competitor he is, and the teammate he is, that he just wants to get back out there on the field and do whatever he can to help this team win.”

With this season being a total debacle and failure, I hope he just gets himself healthy and gets ready for the '18 season. There is no reason to risk it at this point. Plus, Richie is out. We might as well play some young guys and get them game experience for the future. In other news...

QB John Urzua suffered a concussion on a play in the third quarter. He has not practiced this week as he goes through concussion protocol, and MTSU coach Rick Stockstill said it’s still too early to tell if he will be ready for next Saturday’s 6:30 p.m. game against visiting UTEP.

“When he came off the field (after a drive late in the third quarter), you could tell. I can tell when a guy just doesn't look right,” Stockstill said. “He had a different look about him in his eyes. So we had our doctors look at him. They told me afterwards that he did have one.”

Coach Stock said today in his press conference............... even if it's just for one game, then Brent will play (and not try for the medical redshirt)

Technically, he said that's what Brent wants. That's how stupid our football staff is that we would let a key player go for one meaningless game that we are going to win regardless of who is playing QB because it's ODU.

At the end of the day, that decision hurts MT as a whole (program, fans, ticket sales, donations)

But I guess it is Lil' Stock's decision to make. Tired of getting beat up by our porous O-Line. But that is Dad's fault for not recruiting better. He knew his son would be here for 6 freakin' years-- plenty of time to get some serviceable linemen.

I don't buy it. They must have a feeling that the medical redshirt would get denied. That is insane.

They don't have any reason to believe that. He already has one medical redshirt in hand. It would not be hard to convince the NCAA that he suffered a debilitating injury. The documentation they have this year is far more compelling than what they had his first year.

As I said on our board, if he is cleared to play this weekend then fine. Brent should be allowed to make that decision. If they win out and get a bowl game that's still five left. Brent probably should be allowed to make that decision as of this week.

But to have him come out and play one game (or even two) at the end of the year is beyond absurd. That should be a coaches decision not Brents and if they allow him to blow the chance at a medical year over one game then that's probably final straw for me and the Stockstill regime.

Yeah. I would hate for a quick decision to be made, and them regret it later.

One thing is for certain, Urzua is not playing for a while at least or the rest of the year based on how Brent is talking in that video and the fact that Banks is getting the reps with the 1's now. Stock could get cleared this week. We'll know more by Wednesday.

Personally I hope he does not get cleared this week, at least. He has gotten horribly injured two years in a row. Who's to say the next time isn't something even worse?!? If I am a doctor or coach I would be VERY wary to let him go back out.
