*******, that's right on top of campus. How bad have things gotten? I haven't been around there in a few years.

It's not really any worse then it ever was.
Because its an urban area, you get the crime that can come with an urban environment which occasionally includes gun violence.

I was under the impression that crime issues were lessening.

I don't ever recall there being a murder basically on campus when I was down there. Sure some petty theft, larceny, and hold up, but not some kid getting killed on kids' doorsteps.

Don't have statistics. For the most part I think it's safe.
But as with any urban area, you have to still be careful mainly at night. Bad things still can happen especially to stupid or drunk people.

Crime problem before tended to be people that live down at the bottom of Vine, etc. coming up to Clifton for easy marks.

These situations tend to be kids coming in from other neighborhoods to cruise. Same as it was on short vine back in the day.

Good thing that no police were involved else we would be putting up another memorial on campus.

Best way to deal with the neighborhood crime. Drive to campus, park in Corry Lot, etc., go to game, enjoy the Club, go to car, leave the area.

Regrettably UC is no different than many urban universities. Sad but true.

My daughters have lived along McMillan across from DAAP for three years now and have never noticed any problems.

If you don't go looking for trouble, you are plenty safe.

^This.
Bad rarely happens unless you go out looking for it or are drunk or stupid.

I walk down Taft from Highland up to the bar/restaurant areas on Calhoun 3 times a week. Also walk to places on Short Vine. I've never had an issue.

you definitely lower your chances of being a victim, but trouble can always find you in an urban environment. walk in groups at night. uc i imagine still has folks who'll walk you home if you don't feel safe.

it helps if your group is all drunk. you can go wherever you wish

Interesting website.

I did a search for University of Cincinnati and counted the number of crimes that showed up on that map. I did the same for Ohio State University. And both schools came out to roughly the same number of incidents. In both cases, the vast majority is theft which is what you'd expect near a university area.

Yeah, if you're North/East of campus there's less crime than there is in Loveland. It was that way when I went to UC in the late 00s and that map shows it's still that way today.

So it's good my daughters lived on the Northeast corner of campus, but bad that the one who graduated moved to Loveland.
