And the CBS Sports Network color guy is also embarrassed...

Must have been an 'embarrassing' day in the MAC yesterday (not to mention defenses up in Buffalo).

Oh well, super fun game to watch. Congrats to WMU. We just can’t beat you guys

I've never seen anything like it. I'm sure our tight end is real happy with his sister and embarrassed as all get out.

Did she think NFL rules. TD wins?

Thing is, UB had just scored, so at most we tied it.

Ha.

Another gaff was in the Bulls game. Maybe OT. The announcers call was interception on an Anthony Johnson TD reception. Seemed like a full minute before the analyst was like, it’s a touchdown! Johnson was already at the bench by then. Announcer was clueless.

Did anyone pick CMU or BG?

They've been saying Martin will turn you guys around for years now. Really hasn't. Do you think he is on the hot-seat yet, or did that little streak last year reinstate the faith?

The streak reignited the fan base briefly, but the way that he's snatched defeat from the jaws of victory against Marshall, UC, and BG has really turned us against him. I don't know if the AD sees him as being on the hot seat, but football is supposed to be our bread and butter now unlike how we've handled basketball - not going to a bowl is suddenly very possible. With how easy our schedule is and how low the bowl threshold is nowadays, I think that'd be cause for termination given that he only has just one year left on his contract.

If we squeak out six wins however, we're in an awkward position. On paper, taking a winless team to two straight bowls looks good, but as we're seeing now our program ceiling is very low under him with how he's incapable of managing close games. Firing him seems unlikely in that scenario, extending him doesn't sit well with me, but leaving just one year on his contract reeks of instability that can harm the program. I was hoping that our talent would carry us through the easy games and we'd end up with seven or eight wins so Martin would get hired away, now that just isn't happening.

Miami was my pick in East, still possible. Disappointing so far - plenty of talent. Damn have the talent and facilities.

Akron probably is much better than their record. Three losses to very good teams.

See? I told ya. Would have been Crazy to pick Buffalo to win that one (as I flip my hair like Ernsberger's sister as she's booted off the field). 03-wink

Thing is about firing him, can you guys really get any worse? Last year was good, but this season - even with a bowl game - you guys haven't looked that great and have lost games you should've won. Bottom line, he's not getting it done. If you guys were maybe going like 7-5 every year, I'd say maybe not, the next coach could take you guys to 3-9. But if you don't make a bowl this year - or make a bowl at say, 6-6 - yah, I'd say he's in trouble.

(Also, I don't think Martin would've got hired away if you guys went 8-4 or so this season. A lot of P5 teams looked at the Hazel hiring as 'we need to see consistent results in the G5. Unless you think he'd have been hired away by an AAC or Mount West coach?)

(Also, I think UB is better than UA)

Treadwell proves that it can get a lot worse, and for all of Martin's flaws at least we have the athletes to ensure that doesn't happen again on that spectacular level.

Regarding the second point, I think this offseason he may be just with how the P5 coaching market looks. Jobs like Tennessee, Arkansas, Nebraska, A&M, Ole Miss, Oregon State, and plenty of others look to be opening up, and while Martin may have not gotten hired by them, it probably would've opened up enough low P5 jobs for him to leave for. Bottom feeders around the level of Kansas will always be willing to give one season wonders like Haywood and Hazell a shot in the hopes that they've hit jackpot with a star coach before they really hit it big, but it looks like a moot point now. If we fire him however the vast job market might make it difficult for us to find a top-notch coordinator or elite FCS coach to come in, though it's a lot easier of a sell to coach Miami now than it was in 2013.

Wise move. 03-wink

Although, yeah, this pick 'em is a lot like March Madness brackets. If someone wants to win, it'll have to be through sticking your neck out and picking the "right" upsets.

Thinking of calling CMU over UT. I don't see UT winning out.

RE: 2017 MAC Football Pick 'Em -- Week 6
Here are the week 6 scores. Ohio and Miami doomed a lot of us this week. Congrats to george14 for this weeks high score, guessing 5 out of 6 games correctly for a total of 10 out of 12 points. Average score this week was 7.46 points.

Mhmm... I had a feeling it was gonna end up like that. I think the format is fine for this year, but I would be open to entertaining a different format for next year... Maybe picking games against the spread, or having folks vote on a game of the week worth twice the amount of points, or maybe even assigning weight to your picks by confidence.

However, when it comes down to it, the more simple the format may be best (especially for me totaling up scores).

Lester's press conference explained why it wasnt' a penalty. The referee thought she came from the WMU sideline, which would have been a penalty, but Lester explained to the ref that she came down from the stands, which I guess is not a penalty.

i think it's fine the way it is, and I appreciate your efforts in doing this! people may have to stick their neck out on a pick sometimes, but that's the fun of it. and who knows, it may just pay off and make that person a winner. it's all in fun anyway. keep up the great work!
