It makes no sense for OSU to play us in football home-and-home, but I think a basketball series is good for both programs. I live in Columbus and OSU fans always complain about the weak schedule and lack of local opponents outside of the occasional MAC buy game.

There is some evidence, including a joint alumni lobbying effort at the Statehouse this past spring between UC and OSU, that the two institutions are beginning to work together more as the largest enrollment and research schools in Ohio's system. So finding some common ground through a basketball series would be another positive step.

I agree that a football series isn't likely at this point in time; especially with OSU flying higher than ever and UC struggling with a coaching transition and playing outside the P5. Urban won't coach forever and we remain hopeful that CLF can get it going again in a big way. So that may happen down the road.

Any small dream of a football series died with the 9 game conference schedule. Just so hard when you have made for TV matchups plus you want to get a buy game or two to get some experience for your backups. If OSU ever plays in Cincinnati again it will be a made for TV game as a neutral site against a high profile opponent.

They could schedule UC as a buy game since I don't see the bearcats being good for a couple more years.

Right, I was referring to any type of series that would have them play us in Cincinnati. We play there in 2019 and I'd expect we will continue to be an occasional buy game for them beyond that

Cincinnati, Ohio State to Start Home-and-Home Series in 2018-19

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati will start both the 2018-19 and 2019-2020 men's basketball seasons against Ohio State, the programs announced Tuesday. The Bearcats will open a newly renovated Fifth Third Arena against the Buckeyes in 2018 with Ohio State playing host in Columbus in 2019. Although dates for the games have not been determined, the game will take place on the first allowable date of competition in each of the next two years.

"This is a great thing for Ohio, for basketball in Ohio and for the fans of these great universities," UC head coach Mick Cronin said. "I want to thank everyone involved in making this happen. We are very excited about reopening our arena next season. Supporting this and agreeing to play Cincinnati in a home-and-home series is a first class move by Ohio State, Coach (Chris) Holtmann and the OSU administration."

Holtmann, the first-year head coach of the Buckeyes, said the two historic programs opening the season against each other is a tremendous opportunity to showcase each program.

"We have great respect for the UC program and Coach (Mick) Cronin," Holtmann said. "The idea of challenging ourselves in the nonconference while also providing an attractive game for our collective fan bases certainly made sense to us. We understand the challenge of opening the season on the road vs. a high-caliber opponent with a younger team provides some risk but we felt like it was the right decision at this time.

"We will continue to work to put together a challenging and attractive nonconference schedule in the future within the constraints of the Big Ten schedule as well as the games that have already been contracted," Holtmann said.

Well done! The non-conference schedule for UC this coming season and the next is befitting a historically elite program. Our basketball fans have been patient and watched the program being rebuilt the right way. Let's hope the preseason recognition and improved scheduling suggest the Bearcats are now poised to take that next step and begin winning conference championships and advancing further in March.

Next year Ohio State, UCLA, and Xavier on the home schedule. There are fans of elite programs that would beg for that home non-conference schedule. Now if UConn, Memphis, and Temple would get their act together and play at their historical level the league schedule for years to come could be elite too.

Bearcat basketball is about getting very close to getting back to type of levels and respect the program had in the 1990's in terms of overall branding. It doesn't hurt that Mick had a relationship with the coaches at UCLA and Ohio State when they were coaching New Mexico and Butler.

Well, we won't have Gary Clark or Kyle Washington. And we will have Logan Johnson and hopefully an additional wing and big. Plus, the rest of the current roster (minus perhaps someone transferring out). Am I missing something?

Nope...suffice to say it will be guard heavy (with Broome, Evans, and Cumberland) and strongly reliant on Tre Scott and Nysier Brooks to continue developing.

I don't think you're going to see Evans after this year. He gains absolutely nothing from staying an additional season. I don't imagine if he has a great year this season that he'll be in the second round anymore, and if he only has a season like last year (i.e. doesn't really improve at all) then he's likely reached his ceiling and would just be a year older if he doesn't go ahead and declare. It'd actually cost him potentially quite a bit to stay.

Potentially I could see Evans leaving early if he blows up. He's got the size and athletic ability and the shooting percentages. I really feel like if he ever realizes how good he is he could have a year like SKs senior year, if he does he'd get drafted pretty high considering he doesn't have SKs age/size/athleticism concerns. That said I don't think it will be this year. Too many good players and a offense more geared toward balanced scoring than having one dominant player.

I didn't think about losing Evans early, but it's definitely a real possibility. Hopefully Keith Williams is the real deal and the decommit from Oklahoma State comes here. Still need some bigs to either develop fast, transfer in, or sign a 5*
