Ohio vs UMass 3:30PM
We finally host the Bobcats on campus. Looking forward to the game and meeting some of the fans. With our 0-5 start and history, it's easy to understand the line of -7 and Ohio recent success.

Weather, rain will be ending before kick-off, temp 55 degrees.

04-cheers to no more injuries. 04-cheers

Also D.A. posted on the UMass site that both the new President and interim Provost are making the trip to Amherst.

Would be interesting if connections are made to extend the series or to add some basketball games.

Anyhow tomorrow is game day and we do have games schedule with the Zips in 2019, so we'll be playing at least one MAC team for some time.

The game is being carried by NESN National, Elevensports, and free streaming on the UMass All Access site.

https://nesn.com/nesn-channel-listings/#sat

The UMass site currently says audio but it will be live for outside New England.

The free stream on the UMass website is working remarkably well for me.

Both offenses look to be operating pretty efficiently thus far.

‘Cats up 7-3, but Minutemen are driving.

Starting Nose Tackle for Ohio just got ejected for targeting.

Great game and nice to tail gate a bit with a good number from the board. Whip's seat is very hot. Typical MACtion high scoring game.

Summary from Frank's blog and a question about refs adn Ohio at the end.
Quote:Well it was an exciting game. It was like a heavyweight fight with two teams trading punches. It ended with another close loss by UMass. It spoiled a career day by Andrew Ford. He threw for 390 yards and five touchdowns. He threw one INT but was crossed up by his receiver. Poor special teams tackling gave Ohio good field positions several times. A fumble set up a Ohio field goal.

I thought the defense looked tired in the second half. We also lost some players during the game. Having three starting DB's out really hurt. Xavier Steele had a tough time in his first extensive playing time at CB. The defense did a good job containing Ouellette, but their mobile QB Nathan Rourke made a lot of yards.

Miracles of miracles, Logan Laurant kicked two solid field goals. I think we need the two weeks off to heal up. If we can put things together, I still think we have chances for wins against Georgia Southern, Maine and FIU.

Two Ohio players were ejected for targeting. The Bobcats also had a roughing the passer penalty that extended a UMass drive.

Does Ohio normally get called for targeting or is the difference between the average MAC refs crew and the AAC refs for our game?

Basically they think they're too good for the MAC and want to jump straight to the American. (2-16 in their last 18)

They think their Basketball team is still on cloud 9, which is why they wouldn't lock in to fully join -- and we wouldn't keep them if they wouldn't.

For sure. While their basketball team would do well in the MAC, I think the top east teams like Akron and Kent St would prevent them from consistently winning the division.

They think - by playing so many payday games - they will eventually get good and the American will invite them. And the rivalry with UConn. I don't know if that's enough though. Do you think they will jump straight to the American (when/if they get good)?
