Nebraska Fires AD Shawn Eichorst
http://news.unl.edu/newsrooms/today/arti...h-for-new/

Quote:The University of Nebraska–Lincoln has announced it has begun a search for a new director of athletics. The university has ended Shawn Eichorst’s employment, effective immediately.

“Shawn has led Nebraska Athletics in many positive ways, but those efforts have not translated into on-field performance,” Chancellor Ronnie Green said. “Our fans and our student-athletes deserve leadership that drives the highest levels of competitiveness, as well as excellence across all facets of Husker Athletics.”

Eichorst joined Nebraska in October 2012, and has about $1.7 million remaining on a contract that runs through June 2019. Green and President Hank Bounds decided to seek a new athletic director and met with Eichorst on Sept. 21. Green and Bounds also met with Husker coaches Sept. 21 to share the decision.

“I want to sincerely thank Shawn for his dedication to and care for our student-athletes, and for his commitment to their success here at Nebraska, and in life,” Green said. “He has positively influenced countless lives at this university, and I wish him and his family the very best going forward.”

In a statement, Eichorst said, “While I am deeply disappointed in the decision today, I am grateful for the wonderful years that my family and I have spent at Nebraska. I am proud of how our student-athletes, coaches and staff represented this great university and state, and I am confident that the future is bright for Nebraska Athletics.”

I can't speak about Nebraska's other sports, but their football has been in a funk the last couple of years. Bo Pelini did well and nearly won the conference several times but he was deemed not good enough and now the current coach is likely on his way out at the end of the season too. I think the school will land on its feet soon enough.

RE: Nebraska Fires AD Shawn Eichorst
Too much all at once again. After hiring a coach that most the fanbase did not jump on board with and left many scratching their heads, he lengthens the contract this year (not sure it actually increased buy-out, but effected perception) only to see Nebraska start out 1-2 with a loss to Northern Illinois. In the same week that happens, new Big Ten schedules come out and his initial statements make it sound like he pushed for Nebraska to no longer have Black Friday games. He back-tracked after very negative fan reaction, but there were a lot better ways to play that and shows he does not understand what is important to most of the fanbase.

Riley might end up OK (very doubtful, but not impossible), but this feels like a good move to me.
