Good luck counting on the community providing money for scholarships. I suppose anything is possible, but I doubt it.

Nice job Akron. Athletics and athletic opportunities are an important part of a well rounded college experience and a university's core mission.

Read the fine print. This is not going to work.

So Akron wants to run a D1 baseball team like a D3 football team? Will make for a great masters thesis in something like sports marketing.

Now when someone hassles the President about restarting baseball, he can say, "I agree, that would be great, and we have a plan to do just that, based on community support. How much is the scholarship endowment going to be expecting from you?"

At a minimum the President gets off the hook, and in the best of all possible worlds, the scholarship endowment promises are enough to get the teams going, and away they go.
