I don't see ND hiring Chip Kelly, either.

Nebraska has to hire a guy the fans respect so much they will let him monkey with the way things are done there.

His management and people skills are poor. And he is awful in both one on one and speaking (so much for a donor boost). Whatever school hires him is in for a big fail.

Because he failed in the NFL does not mean he is a bad college coach. Lots of good college coaches could not cut it in the NFL. The guy was at Oregon for 5 years and won no less than 11 games every season.

I agree. And you can say the same for Harbaugh. Actually, college is a great place for guys like these. They get to control EVERYTHING. And, you know what? The players/kids? There isn't a union or a paycheck to shove right back at the coach. There is the threat of having your scholarship pulled or being made irrelevant and never seeing the field. Schools don't seem to care what kind of narcissistic, if not sociopathic jag-weeds they hire. If they win, can bring in $...who cares?

I could see Chip at a PAC or ACC school. One of the 'Zona's or Miami. I think the SEC or B12 would try...he won't fit in there, but, a place like Missouri or South Carolina; places where the boosters and fans will give the guy the room to run things HIS way...possible.

Actually, put him in Missouri, and it hurts pretty much everyone else's recruiting. He's aware of the west coast and he's basically in the middle of the country but in a southern conference. That would hurt a lot of programs going head to head with the guy (because he knows pro systems and can run intriguing offensive schemes, even if a ****er of a guy).

So you are saying Scott Frost is their guy?

I don't think there is a guy who fits that category. Frost would never do anything in Lincoln that didn't meet with Osborne's approval.

I made a comparison to UCLA basketball earlier, and here's another. The shadow of Osborne behind the scenes, with the boosters and with the administration, might be a lot like Wooden at UCLA after his retirement.

Unfortunately for Nebraska, it is unlikely they will be the premier job available within the next two years when Chip is likely to make his decision.

Nick Saban comes to mind. Successful at LSU, 2 so-so years in NFL with Miami, then went back to college. I hear he is doing OK at Alabama.

+1.

Now I COULD see him at either Texas A&M or Missouri (but don't count on Mizzou hiring him!). He could also fit at Florida, but that job isn't open.

Ole Miss and Baylor could fit but are both too risky right now.

The Arizona State job is likely to come open soon if he wants to get back into the Pac-12.
