I will have to look at that. When watching a highlight of that play, I noticed he took dive as one of our guys ran by him, trying to make it look like a block in the back. I wonder if the taunting/celebration call had anything to do with follow-up to that. It's pretty bad to take a dive like that, ut IF he did it twice on one play, it's pathetic. Maybe he knew he's lost the Heisman Award, so he thought he'd start working on an Oscar - he is in LA after all.

I rewatched the game and they didn't show what caused the penalty but lol the guy next to my said he probably takes theatre classes at UCLA.

As for the late hit on the interception return, I have no idea. That was clearly a hit out of bounds.

Yeah, the wrap around with both arms sealed the call. Had he held his arms back and bumped the returner, he would have an argument.

The late hit was ridiculous. There was definitely a flag. Seems like there was a ref announcement, but I couldn't hear it. Next thing we know, we're back to where he ran out of bounds with no penalty.

What was the unsportsmanlike called on us on the pick 6? I never figured that out. Surely it wasn't the "block" on the qb at the 5?

I don't think there is any allowance for "the defender couldn't see the fair catch signal, so he gets to hit the guy just in case he didn't call fair catch". The jumbotron clearly showed a signal followed by our guy wrapping him up. The rule is designed to protect the returner who is looking up in the air away from the other players. There is no other way to make that call.

There were plenty of bad calls for both teams, but that was not one of them.

I think our guy lowered his head to avoid targeting and never saw the late hand go up. Call was fine.

I try not to complain about officials calls. It is VERY difficult. I have done it and it is tough. Saying that, why no late hit on the long interception late in the game? Our guy was several feet out of bounds and got hit hard again. I swear I saw a flag on the field that was picked up but I could be wrong.

Yeah, I'm gonna say they did a pretty good job overall. Because I was sure when they got the ball back after the botched fake field-goal, I was SURE we were about to see 5 consecutive "pass-interference" calls and magically the P5 school was gonna be 1st and goal with a legit chance.
I totally agree! Flashback to most any of our SEC games. Whose refs were they anyway?

i think they were aac officials
because i remember the white hat guy with the boston accent doing one of our games in the past

i counted 3 penalties that were called that were not necessary
the cook taunting, unsportsman after the interception and the sideline penalty at the end of the game

did ucla o-line ever get a holding call ?

the white hat guy is doing the usf-temple game tonight

The guy did raise his arm for a fair catch. And our guy was blocked into him. However, our guy did wrap him up as they went down. If he doesnt do that then its probably not a penalty.
