He was fun to watch today. Great game today, and he could be a really good TE for us.

Good, eventually Jason Witten will retire, and need a replacement.

RE: Magnifico !!
I did some quick research but could not find any information on Joey as far as recruiting and star ratings. He was apparently an "under the radar" kind of local kid who is turning out to be a very pleasant surprise. Glad he is a Tiger. Here is his background off of the Memphis sports website.

"Played at St. Benedict for coach Mike David ... Captain of the team his junior and senior seasons ... Named team MVP as a junior and first team all-region and to the Commercial Appeal Best of Preps team as a junior ... All-state, all-region and team MVP as a junior ... Played in the Auto Zone Liberty Bowl All-Star game and the Toyota East West All-Star games ... Lettered in football three years playing linebacker, wide receiver, fullback, defensive end and long snapper ... Also a four-year letterwinner in basketball ... Was offensive MVP for basketball as a junior."

RE: Magnifico !!
When other guys had drops in the first half, Joey was Mr. Dependable. Then when the whole team got going, he kept making huge plays. Love how he looks the ball into his mitts with both eyes and both hands - not worried about getting hit or YAC. Dude is a pro. If not the NFL - then the WWE and he won't even have to change his name.

I know the kid behind him on the depth chart. Good ball player. But they're in the same class and I don't see Joey losing that starter spot for 2 more years.

You can tell his has played basketball as well. He does a very good job of using his body to position himself between the ball and defender where only he can catch the ball, as if he is blocking the defender out. Combine that with his solid hands and he has a very bright future at TE.

That's a really good point, Tygrys. +2.

He is very solid. Those TE passes are open on so many of our plays, too-- it seems like that option is almost always there. Tom Schad seemed to think that the new TE would unseat Magnifico midway into the season, but I don't see it.

RE: Magnifico !!
He was wwaaayyy under the radar - I guess because of going to a smaller school, although St. Benedict has had several D1 players over the years. I remember thinking (along with a lot of other locals) that we were getting a steal with him - just from catching game highlights on the local news stations, he would always stand out, making big plays on both sides of the ball. Football recruiting is funny like that - Memphis has really been able to capitalize on local, under-the-radar talent for several years now, with Miller and Cross being the first two to come to mind.
