As the OG Wassnik hater...
I thought he played well and I actually gained a ton of confidence in him as the game went on. He played well today and is a major reason they won. Misspelled the title amd don't know how to change it sorry gents

Wassink played better when we had to adjust our game plan and gave him better situations to be successful in. He is capable enough. Still makes some horribly bad passes too often though.

3rd career start, he put the team on his back and carried them to a 4th qtr comeback win. I was impressed with his leadership and performance in the 2nd half.

RE: As the OG Wassnik hater...
That TD run was GREAT... truly it was a tough first half to watch...and the six quarter td drought was starting to feel ominous, that said, for just his third game, all against top competition (yes Idaho is that for a first time starter) I think the upside looks pretty darn good. 5 of 7 in the 4th quarter, and zero interceptions. I will take a pass in the ground now and then with a QB who is not turning it over. Now a very nice confidence game coming up. Team showed grit in the second half...good win, good game.

Wassink showed tremendous heart in those runs.

Wassink just looked the part like a lightbulb switched on at halftime. He looked much more comfortable and calm.

Could have easily had 300 yards passing.

Giovani fade was there. Bomb to Eskridge went right through his hands. Hid has a big arm and plays very smart. Once he has a better clock in his head he'll get a lot of yards on the ground. Problem is with zero depth at QB they have to keep him on the field.

Wassink is BETTER than Zach Terrell was at this point in his career. No question.

If our Running Game would start performing better it would take the heat off of Wassink and he'd have 300+ yards passing a game, like Dip said.

Actually, by the 3rd game Terrell was benched for TVT who threw for 254 yards in a losing effort to Nicholls St.

On an interesting note, TVT in what was basically his final start went 19-41 for 160, and Trevor Simeon went 9-14 for 99 yards for NW.

Simeon is the starting QB for the Denver Broncos.

In his 3rd start Terrell was 19-38 for 204 yards in a 38-17 loss.

Wassink was 21-31 for 212

Wassink can be a great QB someday if he keeps on progressing like he has. Naturally we need the supporting staff to get him there-big OLmen to protect him and WRers who can get open and hold onto the ball when it hits them in the hands. And a running game to keep the Defenses off balance. Without all four elements you will struggle.

Lester is intelligent, he knows where the team is and where it needs to be.

Yes, Lester is bright but he's lacking in inspiring cliches.
Perhaps something like' "Jon needs laser focus."
"Jon needs to keep rowing"
"Jon needs to take the reigns."
"Jon needs to change his best."

LOL. If I make it over to Kalamazoo for a game you going to fill me in on the 'rest of the story'? Lots of things I missed during those heady years.

Yes, I will agree with this.

Terrell early on in his career was painful to watch. But there's a lesson there. Give your guys time to develop and they can blossom into great players.

Terrell was a cerebral QB who played within his capabilities and was surrounded by good to great receivers. He lacked mobility and his arm was not strong.

Wassink has a better arm, more mobile. He lacks game experience and quality targets. He'll get better with experience, but I doubt he'll ever have a target like GJ, CD, White, or even Braverman.

Never know. Reed and Barnes if he plays offense look interesting from this class.

RE: As the OG Wassnik hater...
I would say he Seems to be a step up above Terrell, but at the same time, he's had an extra year of being on the bench in comparison.

The 2nd half was a great move to see him take the step up. Hopefully the next game (D1AA opp) will get him in sync more with the receivers (and the receivers to be better; that's a key) -- and to be more in tune in the passing game going into MAC play.

Next Saturday is important because hopefully he doesn't play kinda off 1st half, then adequate 2nd half or something. I want this next game to be a game where he establishes a passing game where going into conference season, Nobody is just going to load the box and dare us to pass.

RE: As the OG Wassnik hater...
I think they took the "wraps" of Wassink in the fourth quarter and let him run the ball. He can pass but we're getting too many drops on catchable balls.

Watching Jon Wassink in HS he was a "dual" threat to run or pass on every snap, which is where he will excel.
