Exclamation GIVE FRANKLIN THE BALL!
Why aren't we using our all-time leading TD scorer!?!?!?

He's stewing on the sideline, wants carries BADLY. Give him a shot!

RE: GIVE FRANKLIN THE BALL!
8 yards on 10 carries tonight.

Take away the 6-yarder he had to setup the final FG clincher, and it's actually more realistically 2 yards on 9 carries (0.2 yards/carry).

What the hell has happened to Franklin?

RE: GIVE FRANKLIN THE BALL!
Franklin was getting fed to the wolves out there... We had no OL push whatsoever and basically Idaho was stringing plays along the line and not giving any space. Franklin was being used wide and he doesn't have the speed to gash the small daylight available... Idaho was doing exactly what MSU did... stacked us up and made us throw it... Bogan was getting success up the gut on occasion and so was Bellamy... but Franklin... not so much.

RE: GIVE FRANKLIN THE BALL!
Franklin has consistently been put into tough situations. The box is stacked, they push him out wide...but he's our power runner. No push up front = nowhere to go. Sad to see. From his breakout freshman year to now...we've watched a career fizzle away.

Exactly! And why is box stacked? Because it's an early down and our opponents know we are going to try and pound it into the line; and we run anyway.

When we pass on first down we are far far more successful. It ain't rocket science. Get the ball where there are less defenders.

RE: GIVE FRANKLIN THE BALL!
Odd use of our RBs in my opinion. We would push Franklin out wide, yet run Bellamy up the gut. I liked how last year we would feature Franklin early and often to pound on and soften up their D.

RE: GIVE FRANKLIN THE BALL!
Common sense says to use Bogan early and often, then use Bellamy in a complimentary role on the edges to stretch the field and spread out the defense... and let Franklin go to work in the second half to ground and pound and wear defense down.

Currently, I have no clue what our strategy is in the running game.

It's the exact same strategy as last year except we have a QB with 3 games not 3 years, and the "master recruiter" forgot to recruit the WR slot after he hit paydirt with Davis.

Lot easier to sit on the run when the passing game is a work in progress. Barring injury I think this offense will be clicking by mid season, which with this schedule may work out just fine.

Dr.Flecknstien only built his monster for the short term there was no stockpiling of parts for the long term. He got it to perform for all to see just one year and got the heck out taking the parts he needed to try again somewhere else.Damn you Dr Fleckenstien!!!!!

We have 15 returning starters.

Incorrect. We had 13 starters.

Okoarfor, Keenoy, Juriga, Ernsberger, Franklin on offense.

See a QB or WR in that group?

Turner, Assoua, Brown, Phillips, Tranquill, Spillane, Bailey, Beal on defense.

Spillane bailed on us for awhile. Tranquill is now out for season.

Also lost our PK Hampton.

This is not last year's team and we didn't open with Northwestern (we won on a late goalline fumble by them) and bad Illinois program.

RE: GIVE FRANKLIN THE BALL!
Somebody posted earlier (different thread?) Franklin is "playing hurt."

Still?

That's been posted on here last two years. Why isn't he healthy?

Also despite his talent he has a penchant for fumbling.

Bogan, Bellamy, Eskridge, Watson, Mitchell, Pfeifer... all returners in critical positions.

The point is that we're loaded with the obvious exception of two key positions on offense (QB and WR).

Is your argument that PJ should have been playing ok and inexperienced players in game situations to make them better, rather than playing the best people at the best positions to win the most games?

Very rarely do you end up with 3 seniors WRs getting throws from a 4 year QB. It's asinine to treat that as a negative.

Of course the previous regime did leave us an heir to the QB throne, even if he was mostly a one dimensional running QB before our coach burned that relationship. But at least we now have another running QB (all be it a slower one at that)
