Have the marketing crew work on free/discounted group tickets to youth groups, churches, etc. Give away every seat that isn't sold. Fill the place, even with freebies, until we get to the point that we are selling out (or close).
Make young Tiger fans. Fill the empty seats. Screw this adding more trap nonsense or lowering seating capacity.
I understand the sentiment, you can't do that. It's bad enough with the $5 Kroger tickets for the opening game (but understandable), but people would get totally pissed that they pay for tickets while others get in for free.
not to mention it devalue's our overall ticket pricing. Those numbers affect other areas.
It's free/discounted tickets to youth groups, underprivileged kids, etc.
I don't think we run the risk of undervaluing the consumers. And, I would sure hope that people wouldn't be "pissed" about getting kids to Tiger football games.
I'm not talking about undervaluing the consumer. The school talked about this a few years back as well. There are reports that go out on ticket values, and the more that cost drops, the more negative view it can have for some (think other schools, conferences, etc).
That's why it's always a balancing act on reduced costs to get people in and not devaluing your brand. Plus, as others have said, too much devaluation makes it difficult to grow the value later (not just football, in all of business)

My wife got very dizzy and almost fainted at the start of the 3rd quarter and I had to bring her home. She was better once she got in air conditioning. Seeing that she was better, I came back to the game and made it right at the end of the 3rd quarter. But yea it was hot as hell, understandable why some had to leave. Next game is at 7:00, should be much better.
You were t sitting in handicap seats in 102 were you. If so, I was sitting next to you.

If it was completely free I would bet the number of people attending a UAB game would be the same as it is with paying attendees
It's really all about the product
If it's fun people will come and pay
If it sucks people won't come even it it's free
I agree. All I'm saying is that, in the short term, give away some tickets to under privileged youth and other youth organizations. It's a win-win until we are consistently putting 55,000+ in the building.
For example...the SIU game, we should give out a BUNCH. Then, the Navy game perhaps not.

It's nothing to wring your hands over folks
Enjoy the victory
46,000 was great. It doesn't mean we don't need and couldn't make more money with a smaller stadium. The simplest way to do that is to tarp off sections of the LB.

We shouldn't be aiming for 55K. We should be aiming to consistently put 45K in the stands. As it is we're straddling median FBS attendance and have been one of the top G5 schools in attendance the past couple of years. 45K would put us at number one in G5 and comfortably above the FBS median. 55K is median level P5 numbers and we shouldn't be setting that as benchmark for success.
This is part of the reason why it's so counterproductive to play in a stadium that's probably 30% or 35% too big for us. People see we play in 60,000 capacity stadium and then expect we ought to be able to fill that up pretty good when the only non P5 school that does those kinds of numbers is BYU, and they are kind of in their own class. Stop looking at Vaught Hemingway and Neyland. Look at what Houston and Boise State and Baylor and TCU are doing. Relative to that, we're doing OK. We could do a lot better. But we're not doing bad right now. And if we were doing 46K consistently, we'd be doing great.

Its getting there. Just for the heck of it, I looked up the Deangelo years attendance. Season avg's were 29K, 40K, 41K, 40K and that was in CUSA and without the commitment the athletic dept has given now. Plus, no Tiger Lane back then. Fuente's years were 24K, 28K, 34K, 44K and Norvell teams are 37K for the one year with this season facing an uphill climb after game 1. Getting another 55,000 in the house for Navy will help.

Tennessee and Florida kicked off at 2:30. It's also a big reason why we didn't get 50,000. We are a lot of fans 2nd team.
This is nonsense. 11:00am start in mid-September means heat as well as tons of folks having to attend their kids' soccer/football games instead of going to the Tiger game.
Heat is not as bad at a kids soccer or football game ?

I'm not defending one side or the other with this post, but I will point out that kids games don't last 4 1/2 hours.

I understand your logic. And 46K average is nice.
But, our goal should be to fill every seat. Every game.

Some places it can be easier to find a patch of shade. Some places.
