I'm curious to know what y'all think. Let's say Tubby doesn't turn things around, and he is no longer the coach here. Would Penny be the quickest Rebuild option for recruiting, ticket sales, and culture?

It seems like that's the opinion of most. I just hope that our Admin learn from this, and don't make this kind of hire again.

Ground work has been put in place that Orlando will be secured for at least five years, unless he has a second fire sell after this coming season. So not really any reason to be discussing the next coach any time soon.

Haha! I hope he does well enough to want to be here for five years.

I am curious if Tubby is happy here.

If by some miracle he makes the tourney this year will he consider a move

I agree, but a Penny hire would likely excite fans, infuse hope, and bring talented recruits in tow.

A Moe Iba type result this season is not unthinkable (see Athlon's prediction). We may be looking for a new coach sooner than expected and the AD would be wise to plan for the remote possibility now.

If that is the case we are in a lose/lose situation, he will be leaving even if he is successful.

Essentially our fan base would have run him off either way.

His body language shows an unhappy man. Tubby - with his experience at Kentucky - should have known his performance to date will create pressure upon him at Memphis. We are not Tx Tech or Minnesota.

Absurd assertion.

He makes 15 million while he is here.

He loves here.

Wouldn't you?

Tubby Train.

Get on it, boa.

Woot woot.

RE: Penny
We should go for that guy at GT...

At this point, I don't think it would be the worst idea in the world to give Penny a shot. We can't get much lower than where we are now. If Penny can rejuvenate the fan base and get recruiting going, I think we could create some positive momentum. At this point, I'm not sure if there are many other coaches (that would have interest in the Memphis job) that could do that better than Penny could for Memphis.

That being said, I'm really interested to see how this season goes. I'll be a happy camper if Tubby can get this ship turned around.

It is just an opinion (a not uncommon occurrence on a messageboard). I do not claim expertise, but all humans have an innate ability to interpret body language and I have had limited training in the area. However, there is no doubt I could be wrong. Do you think Tubby's body language shows enthusiasm and vigor and happiness?

Not sure about that. We experienced some rough times during the Tic era, but we were able to get Cal. Obviously we haven't been able to lure the likes of Gregg Marshall, but surely we can find a solid coach that can turn this thing around.

You said on the other thread: "3. Make logic and facts the foundation and build from there". And then minutes later on this thread you say "His body language shows he is an unhappy man" - btw, sounded like you were making a factual statement there, as ridiculous as it was.

If you don't see the hypocrisy, believe me, others on this board do. Obsessed.

My opinion is built on facts and logic (the text you conveniently omitted, LOL).
