We have to beat Cincinnati to really have a chance to keep a C-USA team on the map other than UTSA. We will not have too many more chances to grab some more land.

Even if CUSA isn't on it, it's still a novel idea and interesting to see how it shakes out thru the season. But yeah, if we beat Cincy someone in CUSA will own that big chunk of Nevada for the season till bowls at least. Hopefully Marshall keeps it all year 03-wink

Week 5 C-USA games with land on the line:

Marshall v Cincinnati
Land up for grabs: UNLV (via Marshall via Kent State via Howard)

North Texas vs Southern Miss
Land up for grabs: Coastal Carolina (via North Texas via UAB)

UTSA has a bye week and will hold onto their land until 10/7 vs Southern Miss
WKU has a bye week and will hold onto UAB (via Ball State) until 10/7 @ UTEP

The only way C-USA picks up any new land prior to Week 10 is if Tulsa beats Navy, Tulane beats Tulsa, and FIU beats Tulane.

Can anyone explain to me why the City of Miami (FL) does not belong to UM?

They calculated it by which FBS stadium is closest to the center of each county.

Hard Rock is in NW Miami Dade. The closest stadium to the county center is FIU. Thus, Miami Dade belongs to FIU. FIU lost to UCF, so they took our land.

If you win you get your opponent's home territory and any territory they've collected from other wins. If a team is beaten they lose anything they have to the victor. So before the first game everyone has a swatch of ground. It gets lost or expanded based on winning and losing.

What may be confusing is that you can't win any ground that someone already won from a team you play. For instance, we beat Iowa in game one and then you beat Iowa in game two. Iowa's home territory would still have Marshall's logo on it and you would win no ground.

If you play a lot of crappy teams, you won't accumulate much ground as it's already taken. If you beat an undefeated or 1 early-loss team late in the season, as Iowa did you're likely going to accumulate a lot of territory. That is why Iowa is spread out everywhere, now. They got all of Ohio States season long territory, who had all of Penn States previous undefeated territory, etc. Hope that helps.

And that chunk of FIU out west came from Kent, I think, beating Nevada, then Marshall beating Kent, then FIU beating Marshall. If you want it simply beat FIU and then that chunk of ground will say FAU. Unless someone beats them this week and takes it.

Most of CUSA only had one FBS win OOC and one FCS win which isn't mapped, except JMU has a spot since the beat an FBS team. So we had little opportunity to gain ground for the conference and since those wins were over crappy FBS teams and we lost to the good teams, any ground we did have is Ghandi.

What piece of land did the Hurricanes own before the season started?

None. I heard somewhere they were the only FBS team that started with no ground, due to the geography and surrounding schools where they are located.

Yeah well, they got ground pretty quickly and kept it. But they were an anomaly because FIU is so close by but they should have given Miami the Keys. Would have been easy enough to do. And I guess FIU lost our ground to ODU. They play Middle I think, so one of them will end up with it for the season or lose it in a bowl.
