RE: UC vs UM predict score?
Wolverines - 68
Cats - 3
We get beat like a tied down goat and only score a late fg after Michigan puts in their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string in the 3rd quarter with a 9td lead.
Both our lines are gonna get destroyed. We may not get an offensive first down until the 4th quarter.
I just hope we can stay healthy and have a good game with Cryami the following week, which we could very well lose. Glad to see them lose to Marshall yesterday!

Yep. Imagine the pessimism if this kind of thread had even existed the week before UC visited Happy Valley and beat defending National Champion Penn State to open in '83?
Still, it's hard to be optimistic after Thursday night. I think this UC team will come out and surprise us with some good plays on both offense and defense but there just isn't enough offensive firepower and defensive speed and depth to hang for all four quarters in the Big House.
Let's hope U of M has some complacency after a road win against a suspension depleted Gator squad and only "shows up" Saturday with little passion.

This is spot on--my prediction as well. I think our passing game will allow us to move the ball to some degree. Hayden will not have much time to throw, so don't look for much vertically but we will be able to hang in better than people think. Michigan doesn't have a QB even as good as APSU's Javaughn Craig.

You don't really believe that score do you Jerry? An 83 point margin of victory for Michigan?

It's hyperbole and probably high. I am worried that Michigan is going to run the score up as high as they can because, like I said, I suspect they will try to use this game to "make a statement." It would do so because (a) "Cincinnati" is still recognized as a "worthy" program...especially in the wake of the B12 chatter last year, so beating UC would be considered more importantly than, oh say "Akron," and by running the score up that statement gets magnified, and (b) Cincinnati--while not Ohio State--is in Ohio and Michigan will use this game as a proxy and fodder for when they play OSU later in the season. That doesn't even have to bring in the factor of how thoroughly UM recruits the area and by eating UC for lunch they could effectively reassert their dominance over the recruiting area.
Look... I really do think we're going to get skunked, unless the Offense was really not showing their cards. Then you add in the Defense having to spend the majority of the game on the field...barring some huge stops and/or turnovers...and wilting like they did against a much smaller (than Michigan) APU team and I do think that the score will be bad. Will it be in the 40's? It depends just how good the D is early and if Harbaugh doesn't want to run the score up too bad. In the 50's? Probably. In the 60's? Maybe.
I obviously took the worst beatings UC has had (77-0 against UL and 81-0 against Penn State) and threw in a couple of extra points to express my frustration. I, like everyone else here, have no real idea how things will play out. Obviously I am really disappointed with the game on Thursday. I was one, ahead of the season, who WAS hoping for an upset win at Michigan. (I don't think that's a realistic hope at the moment...) Obviously I AM worried (and as I said above, I think there is reason to think this) that Michigan is going to run the score up on us.
So, OK...

Dude. It's ok. So, you came down 20 points. To make it interesting, do you care to make a wager on either the margin of victory or how many points UC scores? I don't believe they will lose by 63 points nor do I believe they will get skunked. We could bet signatures posted for one week or for the month of September but nothing crass or offensive. What say you?

You guys Jerry may be closer than you think. Harbaugh ran the score up the last year and said that it was because of the payoff system. So I could see him even keep the 1's in longer than normal. Think we do score but it could be pretty bad.

I'm certainly not picking Cincinnati to win in Ann Arbor but to lose by 83 points? 63 points? If we were still back in the 1980's then maybe. Luke Fickell is about as familiar with Michigan as any coach in college football and he understands what it's like to play in the Big House. Michigan is talented beyond our measure but there is absolutely zero pressure and zero expectations on UC in this game. I may be crazy but our offense against Austin Puke seemed pretty vanilla. That could be by design. I just don't see the margin of our loss to what Jerry is predicting. Thus, my wager still stands...

Did anyone think we'd beat Wisconsin the week after losing at home to a IAA school? Stranger things have happened.

So I admit, I have never done a "signature bet," and most of the time I don't mess with my signature. Not only that, I'd be cut currious to know what the terms are... Are you just objecting to my prediction of the shut-out or the margin of the loss or both? If the Cats score 3 but lose by 66, do I win or lose? If they lose 62-0 do I win or lose? Besides which, you are staking me to a set prediction, and basically playing the "under."
But I am game for it.

Whatever you are comfortable with. As I said, we can bet that the Cats will/won't lose by a margin of 63 points (regardless if UC scores any points) or that Cincinnati does/does not score any points. I'm up for either. If that's not comfortable for you then tell me your terms. I guess I'm focusing on the fact that you felt pretty confident in the 83 and then 63 point margin of victory for Michigan.
