BC, Pitt and Syracuse all got into the ACC and their attendance would be basically middle of the pack in the AAC (Pitt highly inflates their attendance figures). Colorado got invited into the PAC and their attendance

TCU got into the Big 12 and their attendance was basically close to the top of the AAC. Similarly, Colorado got invited to the PAC despite putting around 40K butts into the seat.

There are just so many other factors, lucky breaks, timing, etc. that factor in that is more important in the grand scheme of thing when you consider conference affiliation.

I don't care about it from a conference affiliation standpoint. While it's likely a drop in the bucket for a team making $30m a year from their tv deal, more people at your game means for money for your athletic program and your city.

If UCF doesn't care about attendance, we'd be happy to host them at our place every year.

We know!! Which is why UCF Fans love that USF will continue to play at an off-campus stadium. 02-13-banana

I love beating on USF attendance numbers as much as anyone (mostly because they one of the few programs that has their actual attendance number exposed because of the stadium they play in) but does it seem meaningless at this point?

Nah....bring on those TSA numbers!!!!

Attendance has a strong correlation to program support and AD revenue.

38K for UCF on opening Thursday night isn't bad.

Cincy had 30K and UConn had 24K against FCS opponents.

ESPN reports that Memphis had only 10K....is that accurate? I know it was rainy, but wow.

It was not just rainy. I understand that there was flooding and monsoon like conditions. There are some good pictures up.

PS- that gif is from the epic disaster 2015 season. Well into it actually.

We were all wishing ESPN could simply cancel the broadcasts of those games. And the season.

How about no excuses. Real football fans pride themselves on spectating during horrific weather conditions. Your programs are soft.

You forgot the nearby Ayden Collard Festival that starts just 5 days after the game. So yeah we're pretty busy.

It's also the last 3 day beach weekend, but those mid-continenters wouldn't understand that.

That's less than 30% of the student body. Would hope more than one out of 3 students would attend the season opener. 07-coffee3

That was sort of tounge in cheek for all the other schools that have creative reasons attendance sucks.

Opening day is sort of a big deal around here. Usually corn has only been harvested for a couple weeks, dove are thick, and many farms cook a hog or two for lunch or have post-hunt activities. I will occasionally miss an opening day game, especially if it's at noon, to shoot dove.

No, not just rainy. Tropical storm Harvey made its way into Memphis for an all day sh!tty weather day. Hard rain all day long and thru all of the game, winds 30-35mph, gusting up to 45mph, flooding with major streets/roads flooded out, many-many auto accidents with one fatality, 22,000 customers without power going into this morning and still out for some. So no, not just a rainy night. A crowd of 45-50,000 was expected for this game, that is till Harvey made its way into Memphis. Oh, did I mention how sh!tty of a day it was......Also, a shout out to our conference mates in Houston, with daily prayers for you guys and for the entire area for those that lost homes and loved one's.

So, disappointing start to the season for Memphis as far as attendance is concerned then. I really expected attendance to be up for you this year with the quality team you have.

Attendance is the lamest type of smack possible. The posters here (a faithful subgroup of all fans) have no direct control over the attendance of others and the most dedicated fans are those with ties to poor performing teams.

However, I lament the lost opportunity last night to showcase the increased support for the Tigers. I think 40k plan would have trekked to the Liberty Bowl sand tornado watches, flooding, and torrential rain.

Offense sells tickets and defense wins championships. UCF has both and is on pace to both lead the AAC in attendance and win the league title again.

Attendance smack is pretty lame, but like I said, because USF is the only team that gets truly exposed for their outright lies it makes for good fun, especially when they try to deny it. Everyone else can lie with reckless abandon and never be called out.

SDSU is expecting over 50k for this weekend's game, and 50k for the next home game against Stanford.

Will probably have over 50k for the Boise game. I assume we'll average about 42k this year.
