Not from San Marcos, but OK I will bite. Wickstrom has been trying to escape from ULM ever since he arrived. UIW is a private school with a $325M endowment. They are fairly new to athletics, so the sky is the limit; at least in FCS. Wickstrom could not improve the situation at ULM, but he at least has a chance at UIW. They have nowhere to go but up. ULM is mired in mediocrity that one would expect from the lowest funded school in FBS. The money available for donation in Monroe is severely limited and is split between LSU, LTU, and ULM. I also don't think he got along very well with President Bruno.

Incarnate Word is a unique, private school. They'll certainly have more resources, but will likely be a second level school at best. They don't have a large alumni base and offer more sports than their primary conference does. Couple that with a budget on par with ULM's and I don't see even an SMU-like level.
They'll compete better in the SLC across the board than ULM could or even would in the SBC. From an AD standpoint, that is pretty alluring, especially when they are all DI anyway.

Reality is, Bruno didn't like Wickstrom because he couldn't control him. Bruno's reputation is one of a micromanager. And, Wickstrom didn't come from the "we've always done it this way" network. He wanted change and a lot of it. And, that rubbed Bruno and some money people the wrong way.
Wickstrom was hoping to parlay the ULM gig into another AD gig at a better school. But he couldn't get enough done at ULM to really shape his resume.
UIW will be a stopping point for Wickstrom. But he'll have the resources there to make the Cardinals better.

I would argue Wickstrom did make ULM better but who wants to be AD some place where the university doesn't put any money behind the program? (When I say any I mean at a level consistent with the schools you compete with).
Person who should know claims when he boosted donations the bean counter in chief uh president wanted to reduce the university's support for athletics dollar for dollar for all the new money in.
When his departure was announced I heard he had a load of assistant AD offers in short order, I suspect he will parlay Incarnate into something else.

There was issues between the two but The pres. will give athletics more % or full % they're aloud this season. So idk who is right or wrong or what. They raised AD pay, baseball pay etc..so something is increasing .

Also hired a very impressive new SID, Lewandowski, who was the SID and Assisstant AD at Michigan St. for over 20 years. We are definitely trying to upgrade staff and infuse more money, not cut. As Golota said, our pay for AD and baseball coach is now in line with other SBC programs.

This is as common as death and taxes. Previous coach gets fired. New coach says "I need x, y, z to make it work." He gets it, even though the previous coach asked for the same thing and was told no because there was no money.
New coaches make more and get more support than their predecessors. It's that way at just about every school, especially mid majors.
The same is true for the new AD. Bruno will give him more to work with than he did Wickstrom.
Bruno had no choice but to open up the pocketbook. Let's see how long it stays open.
The bigger issue in my opinion (even more than $$), is how long will it be before Bruno thinks he's the AD (again.)
He's going to stand down...for now. But unless he's had a personality transplant, it's only a matter of time.
