Todd Mcshays Top 10 QB draft board
Yesterday Todd Mcshay came out with his updated draft board Top ten at each position. Idaho's Matt Linehan is trending up and is at the #10 spot. On most ESPN draft boards i have seen him anywhere from #4 to #12 QB i think this will keep trending upward if he can stay healthy!

Not to crap on Matt Linehan and Idaho, but I really don't understand the hype over Linehan.

Linehan's stats for the regular season were 15 TD's to 10 INT's. That's not good.

He was absolutely awful against a lowly Montana State last year, completing just 36% of his passes with 0 TD's and 1 INT. There were a lot of times during the season where he showed a lack of good decision making under pressure.

Taylor Lamb and Brandon Silvers both had better QB ratings last season also.

If it wasn't for the bowl game versus Colorado State, who had one of the worst defenses in the nation (giving up 30 points per game), then Linehan doesn't look near as impressive. It seems like the NFL talking heads took notice of him simply because of the bowl game performance. It helps that his dad is an NFL coach also.

I just don't get it...

I think Silvers is a great QB and him and Linehan pretty much had the exact same numbers last year. What i dont get is lamb being in the conversation. He is a great athlete and competitor as well as a good decision maker but his passing abilities are limited. Yes Linehan started out slow last season especially against a garbage Mon St. team but he did have off season surgery and missed spring ball. This year will be far different he's on fire this camp and hes up to 240lbs. And yes it doesnt hurt that his dad is the off. coord for the Cowboys.. getting to spend the last two summers with Romo and Dak as well as other acheived QB's will help anyone out.

Taylor Lamb won't be drafted, no doubt. He's simply a great athlete and great game manager, but lacks the size.

I just don't see how Linehan is better than Silvers when comparing all things.

I don't think anyone was implying that Lamb would get drafted. Looks to me like he was included in the conversation because his QB rating is higher than Linehan's. The point was to question the attention Linehan is getting (rightly or wrongly).

I honestly havent seen Silvers play that much so i cant compare that well but the stats are nearly the same so i dont know how these scouts are analyzing. Well it will make for a great game down @Troy this year.. hopefully both QB's get their chance at the next level.

RE: Todd Mcshays Top 10 QB draft board
I thought Silvers was the best QB we played last year by a pretty wide margin, and that includes Luke Falk. Not sure why he doesn't get talked about more often because he makes all the throws from what I can see.

Something was pretty clearly wrong with Linehan's arm the first few games last year. We'll never know because college injuries get swept under the rug, but it was several weeks into the season before he looked like himself again. We should have blown MSU out last year but Linehan's passes had zero zip and a lot of them hit the ground in front of the receiver. He really wasn't all that good until the NMSU game, 7 games into the season, and I have a feeling that if we had any kind of competent backup QB last year Linehan would have sat some.

I thought he took very good care of the football. He threw some picks but they pretty much all came in games where we were playing from behind late and he had to force some throws to give us any chance to win. Smart QB, good arm, moves around well enough, deserves to be thought of the way he is.

Fair enough. I was unaware he had an injury at any point during the season.

I'm not sure why Silvers doesn't get talked about either. At 6'3" 220 lbs, he's got the size. Probably has something to do with his release, which has never made sense to me.

Taylor wants to coach like his Dad. In fact I see Taylor doing a "Satterfield" and becoming App State's coach in 20 yrs.
