Best Football Traditions in The Belt
As a final farewell to the offseason, let's have one more offseason banter thread before the season kicks off.

What's the best tradition related to football at your school? Either something the team or the fans do.

Today, as freshman arrive on campus for move in day, the Eagles have just taken part in one of my favorite traditions of the preseason. The Eagle Creek Baptism:

Taking a dip in Eagle Creek is a decades-old rite of passage:

For those that don't know, Eagle Creek has special powers that help the Eagles win. Coach Erk Russell used to take a milk jug of Creek water to important away games and dump it on the opponents field, a tradition that continues to this day:

Beautiful Eagle Creek is awesome, but I don't think I'll ever forget the reaction from our fans who were tailgating in mobile for the bowl game and saw the Eagles roll in on yellow buses.

We all went nuts when we saw that. Probably one of the coolest things we could have done.

Obviously for Arkansas State, it's dominating the #Funbelt baby! B-)

But for reals, I'd say for the most part even though its already been 10 years since we changed mascots, that's one negative aspect I'd say about retiring the Indians moniker was it pretty much wiped away all the traditions the university use to have. Probably at this point our "Order of the Pack" (formerly Order of the Tribe) is about the strongest tradition we still have at Astate (nothing unique, just a pep rally with the student body before the first home game of the season) but it's still going strong.

Does A State still do the Paint The Town Red thing before the first home game? I know we stole that idea from y'all. We do a paint the town blue thing now.

That was pretty smart of y'all to change the color!

Not crazy about jumping into a drainage ditch, but the yellow bus deal is pretty neat.

Paint the town red is alive and well (funny I never thought of it as a tradition before but it kinda is now that think more about it!)

It also made me think of "jazz in Jonesboro" we did for a couple of years which was basically small music festival centered around our tailgate area prior to kickoff of game day (I liked the idea but definitely hard to get get students excited for jazz and they usually were held in November and often times is already cold as hell)

RE: Best Football Traditions in The Belt
I am sure that many schools do this, but astate lights the dean b Ellis clock tower red after a win. The Bells can chime the fight song and alma mater as well.

After the water features are installed on CBS, we need to dye the water red to rep the blood of our opponent after we pummel them.

I'd say Trojan Fanfare, Trojan Walk, and the Band Show on University Avenue. We used to have a Trojan Warrior that would ride in to the field on a horse, but that went away after we got artificial turf. Still hoping that will make it's way back one day...

I like the lighting the library tower thing, painting the town red, Howl on the motorcycle, and the "Arkansas State"............"Redwolves" chant. For me, that burger stand under the West side is becoming an pretty awesome tradition! Something like $10 but it's worth it. However, winning is still my favorite.

Alright seems like Southern is the only one with multiple different 'real' traditions...

Hells Bells on third down. Started doing it in 2004 when it was a lot more taboo.

Black Saturday. Usually the biggest home game of the year, which in the SoCon rotated between Furman and GaSo, but with weekday games, it's now whoever in Saturday in October or November. This year it'll either be Wake or Lousiana, since NMSU is Homecoming and Coastal is Family Weekend.

Yep. Chamber of Commerce is already pushing local businesses to really jump in this year since we've got a top 15 team coming in that first game. I think we get something like 90 percent participation now. Everything concludes with a big tailgate party downtown that always draws a crowd.

We're to the point now that we bring in basically every recruit for that first home game because it really looks good when every place they stop in town at is decked out in red.

Naturally, Arkansas State has chosen to wear black for that game.

Order of the Pack is strong because its a required event for Greek Organizations.

I've never seen the point of it though. 95 percent of our students already know all of the chants etc long before they show up for that thing. The entire thing now is basically a battle between the greeks for all the awards.
