It is like somebody saying they are better or their program is better based on one game and ignoring the other 11 or 12 if you make a bowl and they are sitting at home with a losing record. I dislike thUGA with a passion but do I think in anyway shape or form Vandy is better and or has a better program for beating uga last year....no. From year to year based n the individual match ups we will have a losing record against the MAC or CUSA so what if those losses came from the bottom of the conference to their top of the conference what does that prove? Where the MAC, CUSA and Belt finish up in the rankings has just as much to do with timing and luck than actually being better. The BRtransplant guy was touting the CUSA record over the Belt not to long ago but completley ignores who were actually playing the games. IIRC when I looked at it was in fact the better CUSA teams playing the teams in the Belt that mostly finished at the bottom of the conference. Anyone thing the App team that lost to USM in 2014 the beginning of the year does not beat them by at least two scores at the end of the year?

Honestly it is the AAC MW and us. I think we can catch the MW IF CCU does not become the next FIU/FAU and GaSt finally has a competent coach. I have no doubt TXST will gets it act together as well. We will all fluctuate due to a myriad of reasons...like coaching changes.... but as long as when we fall we are not falling to the bottom ten of the FBS like our bottoms teams tend to do we will be a lot better off.

If you don't use head to head OOC game results to gauge conferences, what do you use? I don't deny that there's a difference in playing one of a conferences top teams as opposed to one of its bottom dwellers, but OOC games are scheduled a few years in advance. You never know what kind of team you'll have yourself, let alone what kind you'll be facing whenever a particular OOC game is scheduled.

It always amazes me how fans of teams that get on a roll so easily forget years of having to struggle while rebuilding, but even mighty Bama has days ahead of it where its program will struggle. The difference is that everyone will KNOW that Bama will be back. If a G5 team struggles for a few years, everyone assumes they're finished and need to be kicked back to FCS level.

We get South Alabama at home this year, then we visit Mobile in 2018. These two matchups will be a couple that people will use ( justifiably or not) to judge the strength of our conferences. The two games won't PROVE anything, but they WILL affect peoples perception of our two conferences. It's just the way things are.

Thing is, fewer games are being played between the two leagues now. Outside of App's regular series with ODU and Charlotte, and a Texas State series with UTSA, we're not seeing teams play each other. That means the NCAA Has to use metrics based on performance against other G5 leagues and against P5's to base their results.

Last year we finished well ahead of you guys in the rankings, and used bowls wins over the MWC, AAC, and the MAC to pass the MAC in the end as well.

The thing that keeps you guys ahead of us in preseason media rankings is perception. A perception that has been around since CUSA contained Louisville, Memphis, and East Carolina.

No doubt that CUSA's past helps us when it comes to people's perspective of our conference. That being said, preseason rankings don't mean anything. It's OOC games and bowl season where we all either prove ourselves, or we don't. I'm good with that.
