I wonder how much apparel providers get involved in these types of contract negotiations for OOO games.

Meaning Notre Dame, Northwestern, Wisconsin are all somewhat local schools that rep Under Armour. Maryland is that far, would be great basketball game!

Not sure if this ever plays a factor but would be interesting

I like all of the above. Like you, I have Purdue Basketball on my wish list. When you look at it, the two schools are not that far apart and have strong basketball history, yet have only played one another 3-4 times. Seems strange, but I know why its been that way.

A somewhat out of the box series I think would be fun for UC fans would be Northwestern in both football and basketball. Both are urban schools and it is an easy travel game for fans of both teams. There are also a lot of UC alums and Cincinnati transplants living in the Chicago area. Just as UC-Pitt garnered immediate credibility for Cincinnati fans by extension of the MLB/NFL rivalries between the cities, I think this could pay dividends as well (Reds/Cubs).

I'm on board with your suggested additions; all good.

I wouldn't mind Tennessee again. We had a blast on that road trip and it was a perfect day...except for the final score. But with former UC provost Davenport there as President (or Chancellor) now perhaps the schools could get together. It's a reasonable drive for both fan bases, fall or winter.

I'd like to see regular match-ups with Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, UNC and North Carolina State, Louisville, Boston College, Pitt, Syracuse, Florida State, Georgia Tech, University of Miami, Virginia, Duke, Clemson, and occasionally Notre Dame. In other words...

FB: Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma
BB: UK, OSU, Gonzaga, Villanova, Butler, UNC

A single victory against any of them would be a landmark win for either program.

I'm surprised we don't play ND in basketball because supposedly Mick and Brey have become good buddies.

That was my justification for adding them...I'm pretty sure Mick consults Brey on offense if memory serves me correctly. It seems like a natural fit and we do have a recent history with them from the Big East.

I kind of hated playing ND in basketball.

Agree. I haven't done the research but when we played in South Bend it always seemed the like officials were a little too quick with the whistle.

I would like to see UC complete against the old Big East Schools in the P5 conferences......Syracuse, Pitt, Louisville, West Virginia, Rutgers and the like. I would also like the geographic P5 schools. IU, Purdue, ND, UK, MSU UM and OSU and even the Illini. Finally I would like to see some of the new schools to the FBS Western Kentucky, Charlotte, South Alabama, Old Dominion, Appalachian St, UMass.02-13-banana

Was never so mad in my life at the officials than a game played at Notre Dame circa 2011/

I'd have to look up the stats, but I thought Mick had a pretty good record against them.

Nope. Per the 2016-17 Media Guide he was 3-7 against the Irish. All three wins came in Cincinnati (one at US Bank, two at the Shoemaker Center).

Great choices. I would rank that group, from most likely to least likely in the following order: Pitt, Purdue, Tennessee, West Virginia, Michigan State, Louisville, Kentucky, Notre Dame, OSU.

I know there are existing contract games with some of these schools but given the P5/G5 divide I expect more and more P5 schools to run and hide from quality G5 opponents.

Figured this thread was as good as any other to post this, but I was at King's Island over the weekend and ran into the douchiest combination of sport fan ever--- UK/OSU/Steeler fan. Guy had on a Steeler hat and UK tee and his little rag-a-muffin had an OSU football jersey on. By the looks of this guy I am pretty sure he was not an alumnus of either UK or tOSU.

Our community is so desperate to support a winner.

Chris Holtmann working on schedule changes

Ohio State basketball has seen an enthusiasm drop in recent years, and new head coach Chris Holtmann is working to correct that. Obviously that starts with on-court success, but there are also other ways to help.

“Our environment in there needs to improve,” Holtmann said, referring to Value City Arena, while speaking to season ticket holders Tuesday night.

To that end, here are a few notes from his remarks at the Evening With Coach Holtmann event:

He’s open to playing in-state opponents like Cincinnati, Dayton and Xavier. Along those lines, he’s had conversations about bringing a Crossroads Classic-type showcase to Ohio.
He would also like Ohio State to play in marquee holiday tournaments, something the previous regime usually avoided.
While the Buckeyes can’t play the likes of North Carolina every game, Holtmann wants fans to get a chance to see better opponents at home if possible.

So I thought my angst was towards AD Gene Smith, when it should have been founded at Fad Matta after all...

Hasn't OSU always been "open" to playing in-state rivals... if it made sense to them? Which, in the end, it never did?

Any Power Conference school would be great. The Big Ten West / Big 12 North schools would love to play us because their local recruiting is terrible.

Others: Dayton & WKU in basketball
UTEP, SDSU, Colorado State in both sports

Interesting post. One of our movers, over the weekend, told me he stopped rooting for UC Bball when Huggs left and we were not that successful. Also, started and stopped rooting for UC Fball with the BK regime. His common theme was rooting when UC was winning and not so much when the level of success went down. He currently does not root for another college team. At least one that would share with me.

The willingness to schedule UC or Xavier extended much deeper than Thad or Gene Smith. There has been a long standing unwritten rule going back to us beating them back in the 1960s. Here's an article from 2011
