Ex-Sheriff Joe Arpaio found guilty of criminal contempt
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/07/31/ex-...tempt.html

Quote:Former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio was found guilty on Monday of criminal contempt for defying a judge's court order to stop traffic patrols that targeted immigrants.

Arpaio, 85, was charged with misdemeanor contempt of court, declaring that he willfully defied a judge's order in 2011 and prolonged his patrols for another 17 months, Fox 10 Phoenix reported.

He is expected to be sentenced on Oct. 5 and faces up to six months in jail if convicted, though some attorneys doubt Arpaio will face any jail time.

Arpaio's lawyers argued that the former sheriff did not intend to break the law. The ex-lawman admitted to prolonging his patrols, but then blamed one of his former attorneys for not fully explaining the court order.

However, prosecutors insisted that Arpaio ignored the judge's orders because the former sheriff was attempting to boost his 2012 campaign.

reminds me of the prosecutor in the the Duke Lacrosse case. both should have gotten years in prison but there isn't a whole lot you can do when servants of the Justice system abuse their position to help bolster their political campaigns.

WTH?, Nifong tried to railroad 3 innocent men and send them to jail for 20 years.
Sheriff Joe was arresting illegal aliens. The court order was some BS.

The only way not to defy that court order would to have refused to pull over anybody that wasn't white.

Sheriff Joe should receive Sainthood for his earthly deeds. End of story.

I have mixed feelings about the Arpaio pardon. On the one hand, the prosecution was politically and ideologically motivated. On the other hand, he has brought almost all of this on himself with bombastic and egocentric actions.

But regardless of the merits of Arpaio's pardon, Michael Nifong (Duke Lacrosse prosecutor) withheld exculpatory evidence from the lawyers representing defendants charged with rape in a case that became a national media firestorm.

Nothing Arpaio did or is accused of doing comes even close to that.

therefore, a precedent was set via 'timing'

that's the fear from the 'many'...

and is easily one that could swing the other way at some point.....

Well worth a watch if you have 20 minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CWeP3pS2HM
I know it long, but there is a ton of information that he covers, so I'm not sure he could make it any shorter.
