Dennis Dodd on SDSU
https://www.cbssports.com/college-footba...two-years/

I thought you guys would appreciate this article. Dodd is factually inaccurate on a number of issues, and seems to have 7 month old information.

- SDSU is currently negotiating a lease extension with the City to use the current stadium through the 2020 season.

- The Soccer City vote is not until 2018, not this year as Dodd suggested.

- SDSU just presented their plan to the City Council yesterday, and the City Council (Five person majority), wants to declare the land surplus and sell directly to SDSU. However, there is a legal battle due to the Soccer City Initiative, and the City Attorney is determining if the land can be sold directly to SDSU or not, as a result of the Soccer City Initiative.

- If it is determined that the City Council cannot sell directly to SDSU, then SDSU will place a competing initiative on the ballot in 2018 to counter the Soccer City initiative. SDSU will likely win this, as there are 300,000 SDSU alums in San Diego, and MLS will not be awarding a soccer franchise to San Diego.

- SDSU was negotiating with FS Investors for about two years. However, they walked away, as they believed FS was not negotiating in good faith. Since walking away from the negotiating table, SDSU has won every single battle, and has almost killed Soccer City.

- If somehow SDSU does not win the initiative vote or the land is not sold to SDSU outright, the SDSU AD has said multiple times, and recently said again today on radio, that they would build a stadium on the current campus, or another site.

- Recruiting has not been hurting so far, as we are closing on local kids as we speak, have 11 verbals, and are leading the conference in recruiting.

This was one of the more uninformed pieces I have ever read. Unfortunately, Parrish did the same thing to us a few years ago regarding potential basketball violations. The accusations were determined to be unfounded, and his source was a disgruntled wife of Justin Hutson, an assistant coach. Unfortunately, we lost a few recruits due to that speculation.

Thought you would all enjoy this. Flame away. 05-stirthepot

Feeling your frustration. "Dodd is factually inaccurate" isn't a news flash to anyone here.

Actually everything Dennis Dodd said in that piece is 100% accurate. Sorry to burst your bubble.

It's true that SDSU might be homeless in 2 years, and needs to negotiate (or build) a home field after 2018.

It is true that SDSU is negotiating an extension, but the inferences in the article are wrong. FS Investor vote is not until 2018 (not 2017) like the article said, and the City Council is currently evaluating the legalities of selling the land directly to SDSU. The lease will be extended to 2020 either way.

No soccer team is coming, and if it did, they would not play until 2021.

Worst case scenario is a stadium is built on the current campus (which would suck because it would limit the growth of SDSU).

Nonetheless, this sort of misleading journalism does hurt. That cannot be argued.

You forgot to put "OT" since this is an AAC board making it off topic.

RE: Dennis Dodd on SDSU
Dodd is an idiot. This cracked me up:
"Crossroads? San Diego State pitched itself last year as a Big 12 expansion member. Among other things, it's not a geographic fit. Academics probably keep it out of any Pac-12 plans. The league is already in Southern California."

San Diego State is a good school. Dodd has a point about the Pac-12 already being in Southern California, but SDSU would fit in academically with the other members of that conference. It isn't like we are talking about some community college with football (looking at you, Boise State).

Why is Dennis Dodd talking about South Dakota State?

ETA: Meh... that sounded funnier in my head. Plus, UConnHusky actually spelled it out, but I didn't notice until I already posted.
Sorry....

You're welcome to come to the East Coast and use ECU's facilities. You can even wear the purple and gold and call yourselves Pirates, especially the basketball team. Our arena isn't really being used and we have a nice practice facility.

I think he likes the AAC and ultimately wants SDSU here if we get any sort of a pay bump from the TV networks. That's the only good explanation. To be honest, they'd fit in if they had a western travel partner go with them.

Fair criticism. An OCS will be here by 2021 or 2022 at the latest. SDSU just presented their plan, and the City Council is looking at ways at declaring the Mission Valley land as surplus, so that the land can be sold directly to SDSU, at fair market value. It is all in process, it just takes time.

Do you feel the same way about USF?

Sure, if you get $5 million a year, I would want SDSU here. However, that is not going to happen.

I like regional conferences. The MWC makes sense in that regard. The schools in the American have virtually nothing in common.

Oh it will be above 5 million, though i expect you will cherry pick the contract as well to show how much better the mwc is.

The western division is fairly compact, excluding navy in football, the eastern division isn't bad with the florida two really sticking out. Interdivision isn't so close but then neither is boise st/wyoming and hawaii.

Many of the schools have played each other and been in the same conference multiple times. Smu and tulsa since the wac days, tulsa and memphis, tulsa and cinci, uconn and usf, tulsa and ucf, cinci and memphis, tulsa and ecu, ecu and ucf, cinci and temple, etc.

We are all located in metro areas except ecu and have similar institution goals. This league makes a lot of sense honestly. Its about to make signifigant dollars too. It wont be sec seperation but after the new contract the already clear gap between the AAC and the G4 will only get larger.
