Consistently great to the University. I laugh at the idea that we should have played hardball with them on the FCC deal. Getting plenty of revenue we wouldn't have gotten previously and giving them a real chance to succeed. Working with one of the families that continually invests in this University.

Bring it back!

Look at the condition of that field.

Uh, look at the score... 03-weeping

Student at that time. Remember when they started painting the dirt green for the Bengals game. Walking under temporary bleachers on the southeast end (Pavilion was smaller then) to get to Calhoun Hall dining room. Rats roaming under the bleachers were big enough to saddle!

http://gobearcats.com/news/2017/8/3/foot...board.aspx

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics announced the upcoming installation of a new LED video display at Nippert Stadium for the 2017 football season.

Nearly four times larger than the size of the existing active video display area, the new end zone display from Daktronics measures 31 feet high by 114 feet wide. The display is the same quality and model installed by the Cincinnati Reds in right field of Great American Ball Park prior to the 2015 MLB All-Star Game. It features a 13HD pixel layout for excellent image clarity, contrast, wide-angle visibility to ensure a great view from any seat within Nippert Stadium and industry-leading environmental protection.

Nippert Stadium's current standard-definition videoboard was installed in 2005.

"The new videoboard is a great enhancement to Nippert Stadium," Head Coach Luke Fickell said. "UC is committed to giving its great fans the best gameday experience possible. It gives us the ability to impact fans, recruits and visitors to campus all year long. I am excited to see construction get started this month."

The display will be capable of variable content zoning, which allows it to show one large image or multiple different zones to show any combination of live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics, game-day graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.

The videoboard will be installed this summer prior to the season-opening football game against Austin Peay on August 31.

The project was made possible by a gift from longtime UC supporters Carl and Martha Lindner. Longtime multimedia rights holder IMG College also contributed to the project.

Additional enhancements to the in-game experience at Nippert Stadium will be announced as they are finalized.

Wow! That is a heck of an improvement.

Hopefully the people controlling the board can give up to date scores from other games. Not 3 hour old scores. They should run scoring updates on the ribbon boards.

OK so a new question - will the old board be moved to another location or just retired?

Maybe the baseball stadium?

My backyard. I already called dibs.

Actually, baseball may already have a nicer board. I have been impressed by it whenever I have seen it turned on. Maybe it could go to Gettler?

Baseball has the first nippert board that was installed in 2001 should move the current nippert one there, and current baseball one to Gettler

RE: Are we getting a new scoreboard?
Nippert's new video board would come in just behind Lucas Oil stadium's as the 9th largest video board in the NFL [EDIT: apparently not anymore, as a couple stadiums got new ones in the past year], and according to Wikipedia, will be one of the top 100 largest video boards in the world. Not bad.

RE: Are we getting a new scoreboard?
In keeping with the OP, it would come in 6th in the Big XXII, just a bit smaller than WVU's new board.

While I like beating SMU, you'd think we could at least get Moore and Doaks to wear the same uni, right?

That's actually a picture of a Bengals game, not a UC game.

In the time of HDTV and such, the in game experience has to be more than just the game...you can get 'just the game' at home, in high def, not worry about weather, parking, etc. and the bathroom and snack runs are cheaper and easier. So in today's world the fans expect a better in game experience when they go to live events. This is why you see a shift in stadiums from large, bleacher, pack in as many people as possible to smaller, more luxurious venues with great sight lines, comfortable seats and the like.

Did people complain they couldn't see it at certain angles and seats?

RE: Are we getting a new scoreboard?
How cool!! Thanks to all who donated, especially the Lindners!

Without them and FCC I think we'd still be a year or two away from a new board, let alone a new sound system/finished ribbon boards, which is rumored to be Phase 2 for next year.

Historic Nippert Stadium just got even better! Now lets fill the place!

RE: Are we getting a new scoreboard?
That vintage photo got me to wondering if anyone captured snapshots of great final scores @ Nippert in the more recent past such as UC's wins over Wisconsin, Kentucky, West Virginia or Louisville? Some of those preceded cell phone cameras of course.

Didn't Lee Corso get his IU team in front of their scoreboard for a photo op at halftime when they were leading OSU? Of course they went on to lose that one but few other coaches would be crazy enough to do that.
