After Houston's new basketball arena is complete better recruits will want to play here... Sky is the limit for UH basketball.
But will the fans tune in/show up?
Trust me when I say this, eyeballs has never been Houston's problem, investing or reviving our rundown arena was... Not anymore

RE: Where do your school's football/bball programs lie within the local sports hierarchy?
As recently as 5 years ago, there was a lot more KU gear being worn in Wichita than WSU gear. That's changed. Now there's WSU gear being worn even in the off season, and we're seeing less and less KU gear. WSU gear has moved to the prominent display areas in the stores that sell shirts and other stuff that's school related. WSU gear is now more commonly seen than KU and K-State gear combined.
WSU basketball has ruled the sports scene in Wichita for the past 50 or 60 years. Having a ticket to a WSU basketball game is a sign of economic power and upper-tier social standing in the city. We were still drawing around 6,000 fans in the '90's when the program was pitiful.
A well-healed friend of mine wanted season tickets 2 years ago. She was told that to have any hope of getting a ticket, she'd have to donate at least $1,500 to WSU's scholarship fund. That was where the bidding was at to have even a remote chance of being high enough in the waiting list to have a chance for a ticket that wasn't being renewed.
For the past (at least) 10-12 years, the only times we haven't sold every basketball ticket is when some student tickets weren't used. Now the athletic department sells unused student tickets 2 days before games are played. Price was $22 last year. Probably closer to $30 this year. That will get you a general admission ticket (no assigned seat) behind a basket. If us older fans have any respect for the students, it's a seat probably 20 - 22 rows up. That's if you get to the game an hour before tip off.

You obviously have no idea about the CT sports market. No one cares about any high school sport here.
Even imagining there are more football fans @ UCONN than Gmen or Pats is silly talk no one is buying.Plenty of fans of high school in Fairfield County

You either skipped over earlier pages or you are a lame troll. Perhaps you need to attend Troll Academy with Headmistress Bearcats#1.
I said that the UCONN athletic department (that includes all sports) is bigger than any single professional franchise. Of course the Pats and Giants are bigger than UCONN football.
And no one cares about high school football in CT (not even the high school players). How many high-level recruits does CT produce and how does that number compare to other states? That should tell you something right there.

In full agreement here ^^^
I don't see UH dropping from 3rd... In fact, as aggressive as UH has been as of late, facility improvements I mean, 2nd spot isn't far out of reach.
You're being optimistic to think UH football or basketball can challenge the Rockets or Astros any time soon. Especially with those teams as hot as they are right now. I'll change my tune if we see a season when the Coogs are in the football playoffs and the Astros are 100-game losers...
I can definitely see UH football dropping below 3rd in the right (err, wrong for us) circumstances. If UH football goes back in the shitter (see 1990's), and UT or A&M starts winning, then we easily fall behind them locally.
That said, I do believe that demographics have changed enough in Houston that UH is much better positioned than it was in the 1990's. We've churned out many tens of thousands of alumni since that time, AND they're much more enthusiastic alumni, as opposed to what we saw back in the 90's.
I believe I see just as many UH stickers on cars nowadays as I do UT-Austin or A&M stickers. Of course, I live inside the city and don't often get as far out as Beltway 8, so it may be different in the 'burbs. However, here in town I see lots of Cougar love.

For a long time, I think Tiger basketball was the top program in Memphis. Now I think the Griz rule the local market. It is tough to compete against a pro team.
