RE: Cure Bowl
Would anyone make the argument that a bowl makes more sense for Myrtle Beach in December than Charleston in December?

Last time I went to MB it was March and perfect.

Some days are good, some days are bad. Tourism season really kicks in around Memorial Day weekend and runs through August though. Sure, the beach is much nicer, even on bad days, than the weather most in the Midwest and inland southern regions are used to in March but it still isn't ideal.

I grew up traveling to Myrtle Beach for family during all seasons and the place is dead, compared to the height of summer, around the end of September. By November it's a ghost town. A December bowl would be much better off being in Charleston.

MB is more of a year round draw now. Some people enjoy it more in the shoulder months than in the height of tourist season.

I will say Myrtle is no where near as packed in the winter as the summer. However, it seems like it is gaining in popularity for the offseason. I wouldn't call it a ghost town but certainly not as busy as the summer time.

That's the point. No where near as packed but plenty to do. Not having to deal with 1,000,000+ tourists is a benefit to most people.

The weather is about the same. For Myrtle Beach, there will be plenty of inexpensive hotel rooms and lots of restaurants with no waits and no traffic. You get most of the benefits without the summer time hassles.

I'm sure that Charleston would be a great place watch a bowl game too but I don't see were it has a huge advantage over Myrtle Beach.

The cure bowl was originally going to be at Bright House Networks Stadium (now Spectrum Stadium). That 45k venue would've been much better than the Citrus Bowl (Camping World Stadium). With that said, if the matchups have pretty much anybody other than UCF or USF in them they could afford to move to the smaller Orlando City soccer stadium. Perfect size for this game.

If the bowl game ever got moved to OCS, I'd totally sit in the rainbow section. That'd be sweet!

Do they allow people to sit in them?

I'm not sure. You could be right now that I think about it

Why would you think that? Danny McBride was born in Statesboro.

MB is to Buckeyes as PC is to Bama

So many people from Ohio spend spring break or visit during the summer, then they decide to move down permanently.

MB couldn't hold Charleston's jockstrap. Lets see, have a bowl in one of the top cities in the world or a vacant tourist trap for spring breakers? I'm a little biased, but no way MB is a better choice if you are just looking at the locations. You could argue over venue and cost, but not location. 01-wingedeagle

I wouldn't. The biggest plus I could see is cost. It would be cheap as hell (unless hotels jacked up their rates for that one weekend) and traffic should be light.

Food, sites, activities, bars, history, etc... are all in Charleston.

Charleston would be much better for an overall experience for a first time visitor. For those that have been to both multiple times and only care about the football game and hanging out with fans MB would probably be more fun and make a bigger deal about the game.

Charleston locals may see an SBC/CUSA/MAC bowl game beneath them, especially a northern MAC team.

You may have a point. The Medal of Honor folks are already on record that they want an SEC and / or ACC tie in but would take G5 schools to get it off the ground.

Yeah, but his confederate battle flag boogie board screams "Myrtle Beach."

You're right that was Myrtle, but that was me 30 years ago.
