That's What I Like
Always a great sign to be picked Number 1. Gives you the best chance to be Number 1.
Players love this stuff and it breeds confidence.
I don't think Coach Norvell will allow them to be over confident. He's the type to keep the team grounded
Every year Coach Cal's teams were picked Number 1 in our conference we ended up Number 1
It's an AMAZING accomplishment for the Tiger Football program and all the long suffering fans who supported all these years.
I still remember being in the stands at the old Louisville baseball/football stadium in '92 seeing us get cheated out of that game. Led to a team boycott which was the most embarrassing moment in program history
Bruno Mars said all of that in a song? That's pretty specific stuff. He must have a connection to Memphis.

Our safeties and linebackers are being schooled on how to provide better run support against the triple option. Kinda hard when they only see it once a year vs. seeing a Veer or Wishbone offense every week. Old school.
No doubt. But until we can stop them, we are not favorites

Other picks, and if the mods want to create a separate thread for media, coaches and other season predictions, would be a good idea...
Phil Steele has USF winning the East, and a three way tie with Houston, Tulsa and Memphis in the West, I am guessing that means he ran their schedules and found a three way record tie. He gives Houston the overall nod and USF the overall nod to win the whole conference. He has Navy fourth in the West.

Until we can stop any offense with a pulse, I don't see us the favorite. Offense should be stellar, but the defense HAS to improve in order to win the conference. The Tigers gave up 40-plus points in six of seven games last season against teams that finished with a winning record. I understand the pace of play on offense can impact the amount of points given up on defense (more possessions, tired defense, etc.), but Memphis won't go 10-2 or 11-1 giving up 40-plus points to just about every winning team they face.

Wasn't trying to come across as a negative nancy with the above post, but the defense does concern me. I'm excited about the possibilities of the upcoming season and hopeful that new recruits coupled with an added year of experience for returning players will lead to a better defense. If the D can give be average against good teams, then we just might win the west.

Yep how good the defense is and avoiding injuries is key. I've heard people say our schedule is favorable. To that I say, relative to what? Maybe our OOC isn't overly difficult, but we still have to play Houston, Tulsa and UCF (in conference) on the road. Also, Navy (the team we haven't been able to figure out) is still on our schedule. Sure those aren't SEC caliber teams, but those are far from guaranteed Ws. I'm cautiously optimistic. Double digit wins would be an overwhelming success.

That was last year with a new staff and no depth. This year is different Avery, Dillon , Cook, and others are leaders on that defense
